Hi all,
I think most people who own this game are bursting for an expansion. It is a shame that this wonderful, wonderful game has not been expanded. With the upcoming Hobbit film I am very, very hopeful FFG will release something. Perhaps with a hobbit character that people can play for example? Also the the LoTR Card Game, there is no lack of potential card art for FFG
At any rate, it feels like there are a lot of fairly straight forward, but still very exciting things they could do in an expansion.
Firstly, more story/location cards, simply to add a bit more variety to exploring. Also, obviously some extra cards for Sauron.
Looking through comments/reviews, the problems that seem to crop up are the downtime for players, and generally a lack of feeling like your character is developing over the course of the game (except negatively, by gaining corruption cards), people like to feel like they're levelling up. Finally, the ending fight needs to have all the characters involved, and just generally have a more interesting dynamic.
So mostly it feels like the good players need something more. Sauron seems fine to me - while a little more variety in cards might be welcome, I never feel bored as Sauron or feel like I need more to do/additional mechanics.
I've been thinking about this for a while, and I've just now noticed - with the Mage Knight board game coming out, an idea that might really work - that is, expanding the deck building part of the game for the players, so that many more cards would get added to a deck over the course of the game - not just merely training. You would have options (perhaps via encounter cards) to add all sorts of things, from spells, to items, to allies that might help you, that you could play much like the normal player cards you have now. And also perhaps some options about the kind of things you might add (via where you're travelling) - ie you would perhaps find more allies to the west, more items to the east.
Generally it would give you a better sense of building and personalising your character which people would really like. Also, given Mage Knight's enormous success, expanding and developing the existing deckbuilding mechanic would excite players both old and new for the game (= sales!)
There could also be cards that will allow you to directly help out players during their turn, to help with downtime issues.
Another possibility could be something like ally tokens that might represent soldiers the forces of good that the allies could move about on other players turn to both help each other out, and to give an overall sense of strategy that isn't merely about each character doing their own individual thing so much.
Anyway, just a couple of ideas.
I'm curious to see what ideas other people might have. With a nudge from FFG, this game ought to be able to take its place amongst the great classics.

Although I personally don't have a big issue with final combat, I think many people would like to see a revised final combat.
Of course, more heroes, encounter cards, starting/advanced quest cards, Sauron cards would be great.
I really hope this game has an expansion, one of my all-time favorite!!!

I would like to see plot progressions. Each plot has a sequence that lets you overlay an active plot with the next plot in sequence without removing the current plot. Of course the new plot would be worse for the heroes, maybe act as a booster to active plot. That would make the starting quests more important, left unattended they can lead to worse plots.
Something else, Sauron appears to be making it up as he goes along. Maybe some rules that would benefit Sauron if he plans ahead and sticks to the plan. For all I know, maybe he did make it up as he went.

Well, maybe it's me but I think this game already has A LOT on it, so expand it with what?! There's not much to add...
I could only think on Heroes, but it would be more of the same... maybe more Quests and Sauron Secret Missions.
I really love this game as it is, it's a huge game with great replay value and so much to do when playing that I think an expansion would spoil it!

Just adding some new Starting & Advanced Quests for each hero as well as some new Mission Cards for each side would be a simple and inexpensive expansion I'd like to see.
Going a bit further, maybe some new Heroes and Characters. I like the way the game plays and wouldn't want too much in an expansion that changes that.

Well why not a whole new game based on the first age? Or a game based on the build up before the first big battle with Sauron (where he last the ring). I am sure he was plotting before then and the heroes have to make sure the alliance becomes reality.
I will take another game using this system. There has to be other books that could be simulated.
