Here is my entry (it's already 8th now) for
Art & Game Contest

Not everithing finished yet, and i still have time before 15th January. All updates will be added in this post.

This entry is partly inspired by: WIP: A&G [Art] - An Afternoon Aloft

Setting (excuse me my bad english)
Post-apocalypse future, Earth after the great flood. Most of the territory is covered by the Great Ocean. In the world of rough rocky terrain and expensive fuel the most effective way for travelling are zeppelins now (if you are lucky to have functional one). And so on...

Imagine movie Waterworld + comix Wasteland + some moments from PC game Fallout.

Board (modular, may include up to 7 large tiles), characters, creatures, items, locations & zeppelins:

The map is adapted for hexagonal grid, islands are colored for 3 height levels: 'ground' (yellow), 'mountains' (brown) and 'rocks' (white)

Compass rose chart - has 6 directions for hexagonal map. Can be used to display wind speed & direction. On right is sample of using, to display different wind directions at different height.

Things To Do (before 15th January):
zeppelin upgrades (engines, steering sytems...)
more characters, creatures, various items & goods
simple icons
scoring tracks
suggestions for fonts
downloadable zip files...

Now waiting for feedback and art requests (let me know if you want to see any particular characters, items, etc.).

This looks awesome! Great job.

In pirate-themed games there are usually trade-able wares of various kinds. Regular cargo boxes wouldn't hurt either. Also, treasures! By the way, the plant in a can looks very cool.

Some kind of tokens for enemies (air pirates?) and other post-apocalyptic dangers (weather anomalies?) could be useful too.

I guess more icons for places of interests could be added. Like abandoned towns, ship graveyards, all that weird stuff.

Looks very good. thumbsup

As much as I like the zeppelines, are there no other types of vehicles in this future? Maybe some ships and/or landships could be fun? Or some fighter aircraft to intercept the bigger air ships?

Some more open water?

This is not necessary a pirate-themed game, it's just map looks like Caribbean islands. I'd say everything happens somewhere in Europe ) But here is update with wares for trade and zeppelin upgrades:

(this is not vacuum cleaner on top)

I want to add giant Kraken (mutated octopus), giant griffin (mutated too), killer bees... - it's a mad setting ) Weather anomalies are must have - storm & thunder tokens.

ToDo.

Good fuel is almost impossible to find (common situation for post-apocalipse). Most people use sailing boats, those who more lucky can fly on balloons, zeppelins, hang-gliders.

I can add some water tiles, NP.

Thanks to all who just commented.

Pelle beat me to it but my thoughts were maybe even just 2-3 tiles with like a small hex island (1, 2 or 3 hexes) and maybe a tile or 2 with nothing but sea.

This might help vary the game even more seeing as it has a modular board.

Great work Ilya I love seeing your work.

New pics are nice. And yes, there's definitely Waterworld vibe, I like it

You know what else this reminds me of?
Anime called Last Exile and videogame Project Nomads. Maybe you'll find some more inspiration there, I'd suggest looking through trailers/screenshots/arts just in case.

Finally, complete set of 6 zeppelins, it was a bit complex task to make zeppelins looking different from top.

Plus eagle - can be used as hostile or friendly creature, killer bees (not the perfect picture), giant krakens;

3 types of locations: settlement, lighthouse, floating fortress.

Added 4 'water' tiles - complete set of tiles is here:

Last Exile has interesting idea about huge blinding projector.

I was thinking to add one kind of sail ship and ornithopter, if time will allow.

This is all looking pretty cool!

I find it interesting that you mention An Afternoon Aloft as inspiration, since that was the other entry that more-or-less instantly gave me a game idea when I saw it. Maybe I just like gas bags... ;-)

I'd suggest uploading somewhere else but of course that's upto you.

Samuel, the link posted is link to folder with files (there is one file now). Click on WindC map 200dpi.zip (i've renamed file), in opened window press Download Now, after countdown you get link. If you have download manager, try right click on link and choose "Save as".

Here is MyOpera mirror if 4shared link still doesn't work: http://files.myopera.com/Ilya_B/WindChaser/WindC%20map%20200...

I like the hex grid, but maybe there should be a version of terrain tiles without the grid, just in case designers needs graphs or whatever.

UPD: alternative hex (instead of round) counters for airships could be useful too, because facing can be important.

Wind Chaser is finished!

Map tiles are also available without grid and in low ink version. Zeppelin counters made as squres.

I haven't found time to implement all the (crazy) ideas, but most of them were implemented. )
