For those eagerly awaiting the new set, today is the start of official previews of Dark Ascension. You can view the mechanics, the promos, and the first preview of the week on these links...

DOUBLE FACED CARDS
First, off, we'll start with the double-faced cards. Here's a nasty one that you can get on the prerelease on January 28-29...

... and here's the one you can get the week after on the release...

Okay, we've seen these all before. How about something different from today's preview card...

... and here's a different take of the non-usual transformation...

If you want to play the guessing game and figure out what else could be a double-faced card, here's the checklist.

Note the last card... some sort of equipment?

SOMETHING OLD
Morbid, flashback, and curses are still here...

Note that Ray of Revelation is a reprint from Judgment.

SOMETHING NEW
Enough of the old stuff; I'm sure you want to see new mechanics...

Is that reverse persist? Well, it is a Game Day card, so you'll be seeing a lot of that.

Well, it is a different take on threshold, and one that doesn't usually fluctuate badly unless you have plenty of Timely Reinforcements...

AND OTHER MISCELLANEOUS GOODIES
Finally, these promos will make any George Romero fan drool...

Zombie Apocalypse is a Game Day Top 8 prize, while Gravecrawler comes with every box in the Buy-a-Box promotion. (Participating locations to be announced...)

***

More cards will be posted on this thread as the previews keep on coming. Here's hoping for a really sinister set...

Thanks for posting these! It's nice to have all of the new cards in one place.

I wrote up a short preview/commentary on my website about this first round of revealed cards. I hope you guys have as much fun reading it as I had writing it.

Those look like fun, flavorful cards. At first glance, none of them appear to change the basic feel of INN Limited all that much. More Black Zombie psuedo-tribal stuff, green/white aggro, flashback-y card advantage sorts of things. I suppose that's OK, as I find INN Limited pretty enjoyable so far. But I also rather liked how MBS/SOM/SOM felt very different than 3xSOM, and NPH/MBS/SOM very different than either of those. This doesn't seem like so dramatic a shift. We'll see how things develop as more cards are revealed...

Looking at ypod's blog revealed two of three cards I didn't see in the first go. That's what I get for not looking through the card image gallery carefully...

That last card has still left me increasingly confused...

EDIT: I'm including today's previews from magicthegathering.com on this post. First, a continuation of the "better from the graveyard" flashback theme...

... and a way to pay all those excessive flashback costs...

Today has a very interesting list of previews...

First, from Geek Dad, a really nasty creature with "affinity for creatures in your graveyard"...

Then, from GameHead, a multicolored creature that has most of the best things about white and blue...

Maro's twitter feed reveals a container filled with... well, see for yourself...

We've seen it before as a promo, so here it is as a regular product...

Those were actually yesterdays... I'll need to make a list of all sites that receive previews in the future... For today, here are some previews that I managed to catch in a timely manner...

From starcitygames.com, another take on Cloistered Youth...

From channelfireball.com, as one comment put it, "Olivia's best friend"...

Now, for the official previews... there's another card that supports the flashback theme in spades...

And... OMG, ALL HAIL THE LORD OF INNISTRAD!...

*ahem*

Well, that was very interesting...

Wow... Sorin looks pretty darn strong for 4 mana, though being BW does limit it somewhat. The ultimate is sort of interesting if I understand my rules correctly - he can destroy 3 creatures and/or PW's, but only cards come back under the player's control. Tokens are not cards. So he can kill token creatures, but not reanimate them. In a block with a lot of token action, that seems relevant to remember.

I love Jar of Eyeballs thematically. It seems fairly strong also - the Jar itself is not sac'd when you dig, so if you can use it just twice (2 dead creatures and a total of 9 mana), you're already up a card. That may not be that relevant in Standard, where games are unlikely to run that long, but I can see it being incredibly useful in EDH. The digging aspect makes it, in some ways, more useful than Skullclamp in decks that will be saccing lots of creatures.

So far I'm most excited about Reckless Looting. It will be an allstar in draft, and I will happily add it to my cube. The tree is also very lovable.

I'm less excited about the new mechanics of DKA than I was in MBS, but Living Weapon is really hard to beat. Undying seems to have a lot of potential, but it hasn't really been showcased yet. I was hoping for something a bit more Unearthy, but that's just because I'm obsessed with the self-mill deck.

If I ever get a Jar of Eyeballs, I'll totally need to get some googly eyes for counters.

We have spoilers aplenty to cap the week...

From Reddit, something to beguile you...

From Robot Viking,... these humans can't seem to get a break...

From magicfriends.net, something that really screws with combat math...

From GatheringMagic.com,... how harmful could an old lady be?

Wizards' Twitter account has another werewolf goodie...

How do we keep those werewolves from becoming crappy humans? From PlanetMTG, how about digging deep into your inner wolf...

Today's preview at magicthegathering.com has two more werewolves in store, and they epitomize "wall of text" if you take both sides into account...

That's one week down, and two more weeks of waiting for the prerelease...

As a celebration of getting my internet connection back after a weekend of involuntary withdrawal (someone accidentally or intentionally cut the wire... literally), here are the preview cards that have appeared since Monday... I'm leaving for a meeting later this evening, so I'll be eschewing the links for now. You can find them all on the Card Image Gallery and/or today's preview articles...

Hellrider should be a very easy addition to my custom cube, and I'm really looking forward to playing Deadly Allure in ISD draft.

Other cards that might make the custom cube include Vault of the Archangel and Vorapede. Yesterday's previews were the best so far, I think.

Wednesday has some interesting stuff for us...

Two blue cards come from the international community...

... as does this cute, utilitarian reprint...

As for today's previews from magicthegathering.com, this one just makes you say "wow" (and the back story is pretty interesting) ...

... while this one just makes you go "isn't Midnight Haunting enough?!"...

Not every preview has to be a card... well, okay, this one is on cardboard, but you might get this as a token instead of, well, a token...

Ten days to go before the prerelease, and we're still getting goodies...

From The Examiner, a red card that gives you consecutively bigger hits... twice.

From Dengeki Online, a green card that reminds me of another card with "briar" on its name...

The Aussies get to preview this card that makes me feel... lost?

Then there are these preview cards from magicthegathering.com...

While not the sexiest of the bunch, Briarpack Alpha strikes me as quite a strong card. A flashable 3/3 for G3 is not terrible for starters, and getting +2/+2 on something else is a huge bonus. It's probably too easy to see coming to matter in Constructed, but it's going to be an easy 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 in Limited. That's pretty excellent for an uncommon, and green has plenty of fine beaters in the format already.

Can Sudden Disappearance combo with Sundial of the Infinite from M12? When the return trigger goes onto the stack at the beginning of the end phase can you just end the turn permanently exiling all your opponents non-lands?

It can also give itself the +2/+2, making for a 5/5 blocker out of nowhere.

I guess that's why it's a 5W to cast.

After this, there will be one more week before the prerelease. We will probably get the full spoiler by then, but until then we will have to make do with these still awesome cards...

From Rebellion.es, a discard spell that, when something dies, turns into one heck of a discovery...

From BlackBorder, 15 +1/+1 counters for 9 mana!

And from today's magicthegathering.com previews, an efficiently gruesome means of removal on a stick...

... and Curse of Furnace of Rath...

And today, the full spoiler is out in all its glory. Interesting things to note are...

- The "Increasing" cycle has black as a Diabolic Tutor effect and red as a Twincast effect.
- Each of the four monster groups gets a lord, all multicolored. Humans got theirs earlier in Innistrad in Mayor of Avarbuck, but it's not known if they'll get another one come Avacyn Restored. Speaking of which...
- The "activated ability land cycle" will get the remaining three (w/r, u/r, and u/g) in Avacyn Restored...
