Subject: 2 small questions rss

I just received a copy of Carson City as a new years present, which I was very happy with

Last Friday, we played the game for the first time (with 5 players) and I loved it! The wild west came back to life! I love the theme and how it is worked out.

However, we struggled with 2 small problems:

1. Passing order
When do you pass when you have no cowboys left: directly after you place the last cowboy or when it is your next turn (or supposed to be your next turn). This question was raised by the fact that some (or one player) had more cowboys left than the rest of the players because he gained some back from losing duels in the former round.

2. Colonist/(DIY)Indian card
I know you can choose to take an empty parcel with house or mountain during the game setup, but can you also do this with the colonist/indian card? Or does the parcel need to be empty? Or do you have to pay?

Thanks in advance for a reply.

Pass when it's your next turn, precisely for the reason you mentioned where it's possible to retain cowboys.

In regards to #1 the above post is correct. You pass your next turn. In regards to #2, I don't have any rules for the indian, but we have played it that if the parcel is not claimed by another person, then it is yours if it is empty or has an unclaimied mountain or unclaimed house on it.

The parcel simply needs to be UNCLAIMED. You get the free claim / random claim as long as the selected parcel isn't already CLAIMED.

(Even if it has an unclaimed prison on it ... *cough*)

I find that the Indian tends to wind up being the passive way to steal mountains from mine operators!

Answered already, but here's my mine anyway:

#1 You either place a cowboy OR pass on your turn. You don't have to place all your cowboys before you choose to pass.

#2 You don't have to pay, and it can have a house or mountain on it, it just has to be unowned. The Indian assigns 2 random parcels, so you re-roll if they are already owned.
