Judging from how long the development of an AI for a computer version of World in Flames has taken, pretty sure WiF (indeed, any moderately complex board wargame) would be in Calvinball territory, too.

Not really. This is just a matter of computing power. Getting a decent AI on an average home PC and creating a computer that can beat the best humans are quite different problems.

There definitely needs to be a Geeklist of games where AIs lose to top humans. Anyone have a link, or volunteer to start the list? Does anyone know how Hive ranks currently?

I would have liked to see rock-paper-scissors there as computers frequently outplay humans (showing that we are very bad at randomizing...)
