Now, bear in mind that I've only played four games of Pandemic, all 2-player, all 4 epidemic...
Twice, my gaming partner and I have drawn Researcher and Dispatcher, and twice other.
Both times we had Researcher/Dispatcher, we've beaten the game when about half-way through the deck.
Is the Researcher/Dispatcher combination too powerful?

Is the Researcher/Dispatcher combination too powerful? Only 4 epidemics? There's a reason the game comes with 6 epidemic cards. Feel free to ratchet up the difficulty if the beginner level poses too little a challenge for you.

The game is designed In a way that some combo of characters are more powerful than others. That's the way it is. But are you going to stick with researcher + dispatcher every time you play because it is the "best"? I bet not. Part of the fun is the challenge that each combo provides. If this combo is too powerful then add in more epidemics!!!

In my experience, Pandemic is easiest with 2 players and becomes more difficult with more. And the Researcher is definitely one of the best to have (personally I think Researcher + Medic is over-powered). With 2 players, I don't think we've ever lost with 5 epidemics, regardless of which roles we have; 6 epidemics makes for a good challenge, especially without a Researcher or Medic. 5 epidemics with 4 players can be challenging.

Both roles are not so good at cleaning. But with only 4 epidemics that is less important.

Interesting. We'll have to try the five and six epidemic versions with those two and see what happens. Thanks for the replies, all!

We play with 2 players all the time, though now more often with the On the Brink role cards for more variety.
I think with any of these roles and only 4 epidemics the researcher/dispatcher or medic/dispatcher can certainly help win more often. But it also sort of depends where the disease appears and spreads and how lucky you get with cards to cure disease as well.
I'd say ratchet it up to 5 epidemics and see how it plays.
