Hi All!

I'm looking for a source for cheapo plastic poker chips (you know, the interlocking when stacked kind), except I'm looking for them in odd sizes/colors - namely c. 30mm in diameter, and as many different colors as possible. I suppose wooden tokens would also work, but I'd really like the plastic chips.

The Game Crafter has some, but their plastic chips are too small for what I need.

Can someone help? The Google searches and ebay browsing have yielded nothing favorable.

Thanks in advance for the collective wisdom on this forum!

I see them oft enough in hobby and craft stores, and also in dollar and thrift stores. Only colours I have seen are mostly red or white, occasionally green or blue, dont think ever spotted yellow ones but its been ages since.

I recall a few base poker sets used to come with a spread of colours. As did some of those "multi-game" sets.

Yes, I think the hobby/craft stores will be the better source, here - since I need at least 9 different colors, and I don't think there's a poker set out there that will met that need.

A quick chack shows that a standard set of unbranded poker chips comes in Red, Green, Blue, Black and White. 5 total colours.

A rare few novelty and custom poker chip vendors also sell Yellow, Orange, and Grey ones.

Also came across a company apparently selling a spread of 9 colours 60-150 chips each for around 85$. But couldnt pin down actual details.

Oddly enough, I was looking for those the other day at my dollar store (where I always found them before) and couldn't find them!

Instead, they had a set of "Bee" brand chips that are much thicker and heavier. They're 30mm, and almost as thick as real clay casino chips. Much heavier than the interlockers, but lighter than clay.

They don't interlock.

They were $2 for 100 (50 white, 25 red, 25 blue)
Looked just like these: http://www.kardwell.com/beechips.htm

From that site, they have 4 gram plastic chips in 13 colors.
http://www.kardwell.com/plastic-diamond-poker-chips.htm

Price is 13 cents per chip, which is pretty steep.

I have three sets of these for use with Power Grid, etc. They're nice because they have the denomination pre-printed and come in 6 different denominations. However, they are VERY lightweight - they're just plastic.

I wish they were a bit more substantial, but the size and price is definitely right.

Oh, and they don't have grooves or anything, so don't stack particularly well.

the last 10 days I've been buying up the cheapo 1-1/2" plastic ones from Michaels. I've paid 30-60c per tube for them as the discounts get higher. They came in black, white, blue, green, redish-orange. I have a circle hand-held die cut & can put whatever color or pattern I like in the center of them - that would make 2 black chips count as 2 colors.

A really appreciate everyone's input, but I neglected to mention I need actually 9 different colors.

Jayson's source is relatively promising:

I'd actually prefer the chips be "cheapo" and thin, as I will use them to stack underneath a miniature's base. The interlocking chips are preferred, so stacks of multiple chips with a figure on top of it won't be knocked over as easily.

Unfortunately, altering the faces of the chips won't work, either, as players are going to be looking at the edges of the stacked chips underneath the mini and counting the numbers of each color for game effects.

Somewhere out there is a product that will work. I just haven't been able to find it myself.

Thanks again for any more tips!

EDIT: misread OP

Take the smaller selection of colors in the cheapo sets & use a permanent marker to draw lines coming from center like sunbeams-turning them into a distinctive striped two-tone chip/marker.

el-cheapo 2gram plastic interlocking radial chips that come in 10 different colors - I'm assuming they're the "standard" 39mm width though, trying to find a non-standard size like this in this variety of colors is going to be a very tough find I think.

That's cool.

I've done something like that before. The mini was just meant to make it easy for each player to find their units; the chips indicated how many "men" were in the squadron occupying the location. We were only using 2 colors -- white chips for non-wounded, and red chips for wounded. (The mini actually stood for the squad's leader, and would have unique abilities.)

We sometimes had trouble counting the chips just based on looking at the edges, since the edges were plain. We were able to fix that by grabbing a marker and drawing stripes down the edges.

It looks like Steve's site might work well for you. If that fails, why not just buy a bulk of chips in the size/style that you want and spray paint them in the colors you want?

I'm finding everything out there is too big. I was considering buying the diamond chips from Kardwell:
http://www.kardwell.com/plastic-diamond-poker-chips.htm

They are a bit too big and don't stack, but the price is right for the quantity I'd need.

I'd rather not paint them, as I am sure that on plastic it would flake/chip over time. Unless there's a kind of paint that would work for this application?

If anyone knows of a kind of paint that would work on the stackable chips (i.e. allow them to stack), I'd consider going that route by finding a 25 or 30cm chip and painting them to suit.

Buy them directly from China?

Google: Custom printed poker chips
and see if a site called Alibabba comes up....they lead you to Chinese manufacturers....Very cheap.......I'm looking to have custom dice printed, but have concerns about procedures in ordering from them.

I also just found 22mm "mini" poker chips in a variety of colors as well - I'm guessing that's too small though?

Thank you, but yes - too small. I need something that sits under a round mini base that is 30mm in diameter.

I'll have to check it out, thanks. Although I have the same concerns as you do about such a transaction.
