1) can you use the free march at any point in your turn or is it only after the die roll action is taken?

2) if you roll the white die, all you can do is raise warriors, right? Plus your free move and then the scoring benefit...

Enjoyed my first play, this was all we had any confusion over.

Hi Justin,

You always begin your turn by rolling the die. You can take your free (wild) march, and your march regulated by the die roll, in either order.

When you roll a white die-face, that die can only be used to move over the first space on the scoring track for which you lack a county of corresponding color, or discarded to raise warriors. On a turn when you roll white, you only have 1 march.

I hope that answers your question. Let me know if my response wasn't clear.

So if you discard the white die to raise warriors, you are not able to use it for the scoring benefit?

Correct, anytime you raise warriors you must sacrifice one of your two moves for the turn.

Although white rolls are fairly valuable, you would probably never want to sacrifice your white roll instead of scoring it.
