I made some additional test today, and it starts to get solid. I doubled the number of actions that the AI can do and now the AI starts to be challenging. It's also the first game that I play through completely. It took in total about 5 hours: 4 hours of game play and 1 hour to setup and clean up the game. The game last 8 turns. You can also optionally increase the difficulty of the game if you think the game is too easy. I won the game with 6 points more than required. This tells me that if I change some rules that beef up the difficulty, it won't be so bad.

Since players made more actions, I had some exception situations that I now had to deal with. So I will add these exception in the rules. One of the problem I had is that I got long line of units. Some unit lines exceeded 10 units. The problem is it makes the game less challenging because 1 planet will never be able to attack.

So a rule I intend to add is if a line is crowded, it will select another invasion point randomly. This will increase the number of attacks the AI will do with the same actions. The crowd limit will be the territory with the highest nb of unit space + 2 or a fixed limit of 6.

I might also add that players are forces to balance skirmishes. They cannot simply place 1 unit in a skirmish and all other units in the other to make sure of their unit survives.

To increase the difficulty, players can:

- add artifacts: All 3 artifacts must survive to win.

- Victory Points: Setup only 3 Vp areas instead of 4.

- Invasion points: Forced to use 6 invasion points (5 is not allowed)

Here is some screen shot in mid game and end of game + a close up at the end of the game.

In the last 2 turns, I played with the crowded invasion line mechanics, but they did not have the time to attack.

End game (Turn 8)

For those looking for the rules, they can be found here but they do not include the updates of this playtest:

Enjoy!

I would be interested in any updates you post. Do you have a subscription thread for this variant?

You can subscribe to any thread on BGG.

I'll make additional announcements and post the files on BGG when the variant is complete.

I know.

I meant, is there a particular thread that you post to when you have new announcements about your variant. If there is, let me know, and I will subscribe to that thread. Otherwise, if you alway just start a new thread, without a notification on a "subscription thread", I might miss your posts.

I am thinking once it's over of making small videos to teach how it works, it could make the rules more clear.

I have almost finished revising the rules and new cards, I should upload them soon. The combat cards will take more time to do but the stats are already avaiable in a document. Just need a few corrections. If everything goes well, it should be updated tommorow.

The revision is ready. I revised the rules according to the last playtest. It should now be much more solid and should look similar to the final product. All the file can be found here under version beta 0.2:

http://bgd.lariennalibrary.com/index.php?n=Variants.Variants...

Once the combat table cards and the final version will be done, I will post the content on BGG.

Please, if any of you manage to play the game GIVE ME SOME FEEDBACK. Playing the game takes a lot of time just to setup, so I cannot playtest much because of the amount of time it takes. So if you could multiply the playtest by playing yourself, it would be wonderful.

I also added an untested variation to play a shorter game at only 10 points instead of 15 that should in theory work. I will probably try it myself since it should cut the play time.

Enjoy!
