While I realise the train colours are different could I use the train cards and trains from Nordic to play the Legendary Asia portion of this game? I think the mix of cards and their colours are the same?

Yes, Nordic has the same standard card distribution as the other games. This would be fine for legendary Asia (as long as you are using all of the train cards, including extras). You would not be able to do Team Asia with just Nordic (but I think you are aware of this).

Couldn't you do teams if each team used two colors? Not aesthetically pleasing maybe but doable.

Asia includes 9 extra trains of each color - 45 total. Team Asia requires 54 trains per team. Technically, it would be possible to play with two teams if one team used two different colors from Nordic while the other team used the third color as well as three different colors from Asia. But one team with two colors and the other with 4 colors would be kind of crazy.

If your copy of Nordic countries had the 5 spare train cars that most copies of that edition seem to have had, and you haven't lost any of them, then you only need to use two colours for each team in Team Asia. But still it probably looks pretty ugly on the board when mixing colours together...

I'm going to guess that India doesn't come with 9 extra trains of the "non-standard" colors (white and purple)? Those who own both Nordic and Marklin will be fine, though.

One team could use black which is common to between Nordic and Europe/USA so they would only use one colour. The other team could just use white trains from Nordic and some yellow ones from Europe/USA. If using 6 player the purple team could borrow some red trains which is sort of in the same part of the colour spectrum as purple. That wouldn't be too bad.
However 4-5 player using Legendary Asia wouldn't be possible.

Why would you care about compatibility with Nordic if you already had Europe or US?
Supposing Nordic was the only game you had prior to this expansion, you could use the 45 total black trains combined with the 9 from this expansion for one team. For the other team (and this may not be the most aesthetic) they could each take 27 from each white and purple and make their team. This does pose advantages to having just one color because then if both players take 2 routes on a triple route, you know which player took which route. This would be the best way to play Team Asia with 2 teams and Nordic as the only stand alone game. As mentioned before, you could play 3 players on legendary Asia.

I do own TTR Europe but have loaned it to someone for a period so was wondering if I could still play the expansion with Nordic while I wait to get TTR Europe back.

Are the trains the only thing lacking in Nordic Countries being fully compatible with both of the Asian Maps?
I was already planning on buying the Mayday Premium Wooden Train Tokens which has 50 each of 7colors: Blue, Green, Black, Yellow, Red, White & Purple.
With those extra colored trains will I be able to use my base Nordic set to fully play both maps of this expansion now?

Yes, but then the only thing you will actually use from the Nordic Countries, will be the train cards.
And you have to imagine a snowy Asia...

FWIW - One thing that definitely works well with Nordic is Switzerland

Well there are large stretches especially when you get up north, and the mountainous regions in the south that see lots of snow… but yes, the idea of a snowy Bombay or Baghdad is pretty amusing.

I'm definitely excited about the Switzerland map, but am particularly interested in the India and Asia maps as they will expand the number of potential players, since Nordic and Switzerland are only suited to 2-3.

Oh, but I meant... (well, what did I mean actually? ) I think I thought something like "The Nordic train cards are snowy and so is the Nordic map, so you must imagine a snowy Asia map."
And soon, with climate change and things, there won't be much snow in Himalaya either. All the snow will come to Norway instead and Asia will perish with thirst...
