As title says.
I've designed a couple before and am pretty sure I could create badges for all of the IS houses, Clans, Merc Units, Star League, ComStar, Republic of the Sphere and Word of Blake, but is there enough interest amongst the relatively small, but loyal Battletech fans we have here?
There's already one for FedSuns/Davion and Wolf's Dragoons. This desire to make the badges stemmed from looking to buy some BT badges before and finding myself disappointed at the selection.

Since I got a supporter bonus, I'll buy a Liao badge, just 'cuz I'm contrary like that.

Nothing wrong with the Capellans. I just bought a second Raptor II the other day for some more sneaky 'mech tasing goodness. The question is, old symbol or new?
Old
New
I may commission another mb artist to do these things justice since some of the faction's symbols have some detail to them that might otherwise get butchered in the hands of a relative novice to mb design, i.e., me.

I knew there were more of you moustache-twirling villains out there.
Can I make the dragon look like a dragon, or will it end up looking more like a worm? We'll see! If I can't do it justice, I'll find someone who can.

I think you'd have to focus mostly on the head/jaws... hopefully it would still be recognizable.

I would snap up a Kurita mb as well..... As a matter of fact I would suggest starting with the GREAT houses before the lesser states like teh Cappellens and Free Worls League

Free Worlds League? What's that? Wasn't that the faction led by that guy that looked like the Word of Blake's "Master"?

I'd start with the GREATEST house, but there's already a FedSuns badge.

It would be cool to see a Ghost Bear insignia or even a Steiner iron fist.
Also, I drastically prefer the new style Liao logo.

How many of you have read the fluff up to and including Wars of Reaving?
It's kinda pertinent since Ghost Bear and Raselhague joined forces. Do we need a badge for each faction that's ever existed, such as the previously mentioned Raselhague Dominion or the Davion-Steiner merger, the Federated Commonwealth? What about factions like the Capellans, that have an old design and new? Should I do both? I'm of the opinion that one of each that's ever existed should be made for posterities sake, and let the fans dictate what's popular and what's not through their purchases. What say ye?
I probably should have just put up some polls, but what's done is done.

The problem is, House Steiner has their insignia and the Lyran Commonwealth has theirs. Both feature the iron fist you speak of, but there's a few stylistic differences, including the background emblem.
Trust me folks...I'm taking this very seriously and want to do it right, but doing it right might mean we end up with 20-30 microbadges, some with 10+ owners, and some with little to none. Do I really need to make both if the point is made that it's a Lyran/Steiner badge by displaying an iron fist?
I'd like as much feedback from the BGG Battletech fan community before I go through and make a bunch of extraneous badges.

As far as this goes, I'm talking about the classic Ghost Bear insignia - the six pointed logo with the bear's head in the center. I don't dislike the Rasalhague Dominion triangle, but I don't have the same nostalgia for it, and I don't care enough about it to buy a microbadge of it. In general, I think you'll find that most people here at BGG are not super active BattleTech players, especially if you are talking about people who play with the Jihad and post-Jihad factions. The vibe I get around here is that most people are either old players who may not play much (or at all) any more or newbies who haven't spent much time at the CBT forums (and yes, I realize the name changed) or Lords of the Battlefield.
My gut feeling is that the best recieved badges will be from the the classic, 3025 era great houses, the four "first wave" invading clans, and a few other major factions that play a big role in the fiction (ComStar, Kell Hounds, FRR, etc).

I thought the differences in logo were basically the brown fist for the Lyran Commonwealth and the blue fist for the Lyran Alliance. While I am partial to the older logo, I think the blue fist is going to be more recognizable at the small size.

I would buy a House Steiner microbadge. I'm not sure how I would feel about a Lyran / Steiner combo logo - while I'm a Steiner fan, I've never been particular to Lyrans.

So you're a fan of the bloodline, but not so much of the faction and organization that the bloodline spawned? I thought that the relationship between the two was kind of part and parcel, isn't it?

Lyran Alliance is a blue fist over a silver grey diamond-like shape, House Steiner is a rusty brownish-red fist over a blue square, and Lyran Commonwealth is a Gold-ish fist over a marbleized blue square background.

The rust-colored fist on the square background is the House Steiner crest; the blue fist on the "oblongated pentagram" is the Lyran Alliance State emblem. I just meant that the House Steiner logo was more meaningful / memorable to me - it matched the House Steiner sourcebook, patches, dog tags, etc. from when I played a lot of Battletech. I think most Battletech players had a favorite house, clan, merc unit, etc.
I thought you had asked if we would prefer separate microbadges or just the one. I just gave my opinion - you're the one potentially making them and obviously you have to decide what you want to do.

Relax. I agree with you. I was just stating what I believed the differences were between them so Steiner fans could specify what their preference was, which you just did.
Thanks for all the input, everyone. Yeah, ultimately it's my choice if I go ahead and make them, but you guys (and gals) are the fans and the ones potentially parting with geekgold to purchase them.

My biggest concern would be visibility when shrunk to the size of a microbadge. Though FPG can print these things tiny, I don't know how much definition some of them will keep at microbadge resolution.

Agreed, which is why I was planning on doing them from scratch rather than shrinking an existing image.

I was always a Federated Suns loyalist. Fie on all you demented Draconis Combine twerps with your evil ways.

I've already got my avatar covered, of course. Plus I have my Wolf's Dragoons microbadge. I wouldn't mind a Kell Hounds microbadge either. There's already Eridani Light Horse. Could have Blue Star Regulars and the Grey Death Legion. And I'd love to see a few Pirate Kingdoms in there too...especially Redjack Ryan!
