Hi all,
I've trawled through the forums looking for a clear answer to this query but haven't managed to find anything, so here goes...
My g/f and I have recently started playing Through the Ages and think we've pretty much got the rules sorted now, apart from one (potentially critical) area.
The Age III wonders state 'You immediately score...', e.g. for First Space Flight, 'You immediately score 1 culture point per level of each of your technology cards'. We've been interpreting this to mean that upon completion of the Wonder, you then add up the culture points the card gives you and then add this to your Culture Indicator, which then usually results in the Culture Indicator reaching the maximum level of 30. At the end of the turn, these points are then added to the Culture Point score track. However, my gut feeling is that we aren't playing this correctly.
It would much appreciated if someone could help us with which (if any) of the following interpretations we've come up with are correct:
1) this bonus for completing the Wonder is a one-off that gets added to your overall Culture Points track but not Culture Indicator (as there is no Harp with a + sign at the bottom of the card which would usually denote an ongoing bonus).
2) this bonus is added to your Culture Indicator (which may result in it reaching the maximum of 30) and you therefore continue to benefit from this on each of your subseqeunt turns (which seems incredibly generous and a very fast way for someone to accumulate many culture points if they were to build this pretty soon on in Age III!). The Culture points are then added on at the end of your turn as normal.
3) the bonus is immediately added to your Culture Points score track, and your culture indicator then moves up accordingly (which seems most unlikely as this would result in you scoring the bonus twice during the turn in which you complete the wonder).
We've been playing using the 2nd interpretation, which sort of feels ok but generally means that if one person takes the Space Flight the other is eagerly waiting for the Fast Food Chains to turn up (or vice versa)!
Cheers!

1) is correct. just add the points to your overall score. that's it.
the indicator is for things that generate every turn.

Wow that would break the game! You might try playing with your girlfriend online at BGO: www.boardgaming-online.com
It enforces all the rules, so if there is anything else you have been playing wrong you would likely discover it.

Thanks guys, daft question huh!
We'll try this out in our next game tomorrow!
Thanks for the tip about BGO - I wasn't aware of this and seems like a good way to check that we're playing the rest of the game ok.

The strange thing is that you refer to the two tracks as "culture points" and "culture indicator", yet you still thought that a card referring to "culture points" moved the "culture indicator". Why wouldn't culture points go to the culture points track?

Indeed, imagine following this interpretation of the rules from the start...that Age A Work of Art card is suddenly looking pretty nice...
