What do you prefer, the flat counters or the stand-up ones? Haven't played yet, but I've looked at a bunch of the games in play in the pictures section, those stand-ups look very gaudy and distracting.

That's why they included both options.

I prefer standup for a variety of reasons:
1) Easier to spot them on the board.
2) If you beat them in combat, you can lay them down, have your general stand over them, and say, "Stay down, chump!" like Apollo Creed did to Rocky Balboa... I mean, if you are into quoting Rocky II in the middle of a game. I'm not, but the option is there if use the stand ups, ya know?

(OK, I'm being silly...time to go).

Yep, I prefer the standups. For me, at least, easy to spot by glancing at the map.

I prefer the stand-ups as well just for the convenience of being able to pick them up quickly to quickly see what is underneath them. Plus, I just 'think' they are more attractive. (My 0.02)

I'll be contrarian and say I prefer the normal counters. The standup generals just seem too oversized for me, and I find it harder to read the stats on the standups when the other counters are lying flat on the map.

4 for stand-ups
2 for flat counters
I'm leaning toward flat counters atm, but we'll see what happens. I have my first game planned tonight. Can't wait.

I'm a little late to the discussion but...I prefer the flat counters.

I use the large counters, but flat on the board with any units on the general. That way I can quickly see all the info I need. Of course I usually play it online...

Ok, finished the game. We started with the flat counters. But I found it much easier to see where the generals were and easier to read their stats. I'm a stand-up counter convert now.

I prefer the stand up ones too. Easier to see at a glance and just more enjoyable to look at.
I only wish GMT would of made the stands fit tighter.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought that. About a year ago, I "think" I used some of that sticky goo that comes off the back of those "FAKE" Credit cards you get as junk mail when they want you to sign up for one of their cards. It isn't glue either. Just put a little bit in and then push in the General on top of it.

That my friend is an awesome idea, I know just what your talking about. I was trying to think of some way to make them stay in and that's a great idea.
Some quick searching and that stuff is called Fugitive Glue.
