As the thread title suggests, I'd like to know which expansions can be played, if I only own the base game?

Asking trick questions, eh? You can only play the base game if you only have the base game!

If you can find BattleLore: Call to Arms, start with that one!

And to be more accurate, I'm not asking which expansion I should get first. I just would like to know, which expansions only need the base game (and said expansion, of course ) to be playable. For example, are all the dwarf expansions building on each other? Or can I get any of those and it'll work with only the base game?

Like I said, Call to Arms is a good starting point (though it's probably hard to find). But I'm not an expert on expansions, I only own one other.

They all work with the base game but you might not be able to play all of the scenarios in the accompanying booklets. All the expansions seem to require a random selection of other expansions to play ALL of the scenarios. There should be plenty for just base game + expansion in question, though.

Each of the expansions are meant to be played with only the base game. However, some of the expansions have content that allow you to get a little more out of them if you have another related expansion - this is especially true of the last 3 released by FFG: Code of Chivalry, Bearded Brave and Horrific Horde. They have card for previous expansions that allow you to mix Call to Arms with the other expansions, and also have a scenario or two that mixes with previous expansions. But there is still a lot that is playable with just that expansion and the base game.

But any of the previous ones can be played with just the base game and nothing else. Hopefully that answers your question.

It does, thanks!

And yeah, I'm trying to pick up "Call to Arms" first anyway, so it's good to know that the later expansions make use of it (or link it to the other expansions).
