Not sure if this has been asked before/addressed in the rule book, but here goes:
Assume I invaded a house, and fought a strength 1 sentry with a 2 card. I then decided to go for banzai. The 2nd sentry turns up and I have no cards to defeat him. Do I still need to discard a card, which of course would not be enough, and fail the invasion?
A similar case would be when facing a 2-sentry elite guard, and I have only 1 card left/ cards that can't win both of them. Do I need to discard my remaining 1 card/ discard 2 cards before failing the invasion?
I imagined this would be the case, since "thematically",as a ninja infiltrating a house, I wouldn't know if I would succeed or fail in attacking/stealth through a sentry unless I try for it. Hence no matter whether I can succeed, I'd have to "use" up a card(s) as an act of "trying to beat the sentry".
I've also seen people saying that the 1st banzai you call would have no risk at all (since even if you fail you'd still leave with 1 treasure) , but if what I said above is true, then there WOULD be a risk, and that is losing a card that you might need for later.
Can anyone clarify this for me?

Thematically, calling "banzai" and then expending a card attempting to defeat a guard, but failing, would seem correct. However, I understand the rules to say no card need be expended if it doesn't result in a victory against the active guard.
I think theme is maintained in this sense, though: You call "banzai", and then move to attack (strength or stealth) by assessing the challenge you're up against. Upon discovering your inability to succeed, you decide to retreat in haste and, because of your urgency to escape, are only able to take one treasure with you.

Thanks for the clarification + the thematic sense of the action. Is this being pointed out in the rule book? I was a bit tired when I read through the book yesterday so I might have missed it.

The rules say calling "banzai" means you are going to attempt to defeat the next guard, and if you cannot, you take only one of the treasures you've earned during this invasion, discard the rest, discard the victorious guard, and go on to the next player. I don't think it's explicit, but I interpret this to mean no dojo card is used if you fail to defeat a guard after calling "banzai".

but you still can you use a dojo card if it is advantage for you yes.
example I have only one doja card left and use this one so the next turn I can pick up 4 new dojo cards.
Can you pick up dojo card one at the time so pick one another fron the draw pile comes in his place and then you pick the next dojo card ? is this correct.
I read that the elite cards even if they are not defeated go away(discard pile) and then will you always pull a good from the bag are only if the elite card is not defeated ?
