Assume that I am playing as the undead and I am dealt 4 damage through whatever reason, and I have 2 undamaged dark knights. Since the rulebook states that I must deal damage to previously damaged units (I am assuming that "previously" would imply that the damage was dealt in a previous phase as opposed to the damage dealt at once in the current phase), I was wondering if I could assign two damage to one dark knight, and two damage to another.

Each point of damage is applied one at a time, once you start assigning damage to a unit you must apply the rest until it is dead, then start applying it to another piece.

The Elven archer special bypasses this, and I think some other powers do as well, but generally speaking once you start damaging a unit, you have to keep hitting it until it does. Cheers!

So, basically, if I were assigned four points of damage, and if I have two dark knights, I would have to assign all points of damage to kill one of them, correct?

Really? I'd say: No! Four points of damage are applied one at a time. So you start assigning one point to knight#1 - not dead. You assign to the same knight a second point of damage, killing him. Now you look around for a legal target for damage point#3 and find kinght#2. So you start assigning damage to him, ultimately killing him with the fourth point.

That's my understanding of the story.
Cheers,

Olav

Set up a lot of the PBF framework for BSG, Runewars, Small World, The Devil's Castle. PBF in Gears of War, Death Angel, A Game of Thrones. Currently playing Twilight Struggle, Middle-Earth Quest and Eclipse on Vassal.

I'm anal about using the right terms to describe games and have posted an alternative glossary to the inconsistent sprawl in BGG's database and lexicon that is clear, accurate and simple. I care big time about my reviews, ratings and comments.

The example was Dark Knights, which have 4 health each, not Knights (2 health each).

Yes, the darkness of a knight is much like the blackness of a belt.

"Haru: The blackness of my belt is like the inside of a coffin on a moonless night.
Joey: That's pretty black, Man.
Haru: It is a black art, and I, Haru, am the blackest of the black. Or rather the great white black art... Blackest... Master."

For what it's worth, in the Dark Knight example, unless the Dark Knights were the only units there, the player may be slightly better suited to apply the first point of damage to a 1-HP unit, then apply the latter 3 to the Dark Knight. You still lose one unit either way, but you leave your Dark Knight alive to potentially fight later. (Especially if the 1-HP unit has already drawn cards).
