i had this idea for an electified Acquire board.
the tiles on the board contain different leds (one for each color of the company). The entire board is powered.
When you press on down on the tile when placing a piece on it, one LED will light up. To cycle through the colors, just keep pressing the space on the board.
The tiles that we place on the space on the board is transparent (except for the lettering on the top). This will be similar to the 1999 avalon hill tile in structure but transparent so that the LED light can come through.
When a hotel block is formed, we press the linked tiles down so that they all have the same color as the block.

some issues i can think of are:
1) cost and effort of making it
2) fiddly than it needs to be
3) need a power socket

benefits:
PRETTY

;p

I had a similar thought, but I didn't want to put the time into it. It would be an interesting project though.

Intriguing concept. How would players keep their tiles private from each other?

Right, but with transparent tiles you will be able to determine the tiles your opponents have. Just something to accommodate really.

Something tells me the kind of rack you put your tiles on would not be the limiting factor on a project like this.

Or use the existing opaque tiles, and you don't place them on the board. Just touch the square to light it. Lighting the square suffices to indicate that the square is occupied, doesn't it?

I have the Acquire version with cards for the tiles. What you can do, is to put barcodes on the cards and add a barcode reader (is probably cheaper then for every tile a button/sensor). The you can all the interaction with the CPU, via the barcode reader (also print a barcode on the shares).

I'm sure you could program an Excel spreadsheet to play out the entire game and just tell you who won.

Well, you can still make the board with LED's. You have a pile tile cards, with each a barcode. When you play a tile, you just put the card in the barcode reader on the side of the board.

Also, when you have to choose a Hotel, you put the share in the barcode reader.

That is stil the "board feeling".
