Why is it that '90% fat free' sounds so much better than '10% fat'?

So, back at Onirim again a few days ago. This time decided to play with all expansions. The best way to start I think is to begin at the end:

The observant players will note that all doors had been opened...but the game was a loss. Why you ask? Well...

Curses, a blue tower had evaded me, so as I opened the last door of the labyrinth I was crushed by the view of the skyline, three towers not four, misalignment spelt disaster.

So now back to the start.

Playing with all the expansion

I actually think this makes the game very balanced. The Book of Steps Lost and Found is a tough expansion - i.e. find the doors in order. Likewise getting an alignment of Towers is also tough.

Being able to cast spells can greatly assist, mainly in shifting doors around when your cards aren't supporting the direction.

And Happy Dreams are a great way to sail past nightmares, but you do have to pay the price of the Dark Premonitions

Unfortunately in this game I drew four all relating to door cards and three relating to pairs.

The initial setup was a lot more painful than what you see in the photo I can tell you.

It was a good start to the session, I breezed through the first two doors without incident, then a few nightmares struck and unbeknown to me at the time, I lost three blue towers, which meant I was doomed from that point, but thankfully I didn't realise!

Then got a few happy dreams to knock out some more nightmares, and a few door shifts later I was six doors through and three towers down, although due to one Dark Premonition, I lost my last two happy dream cards, then shortly afterwards a nightmare was returned to the deck post both green doors being secured.

Cards were running short, but I had plenty of discards so warded off a few more Nightmares. The final brown door was opened and I felt victory was near, but as a continued to stumble through the final stages of the labyrinth, I realised my fate. The towers were not going to align, so despite my efforts, I was faced with defeat...

Another fun session of Onirim during childrens' sleep time - As the literature dispersed on the carpet is testament to, this was a welcome break from my friend Dora, and I wasn't up to any Hofstadter at that stage!! GM

I love this game, because all the wins and looses are always such close calls! I've just won a game with Towers and Books expansions with only 5 cards left in my deck - 2 being nightmares. Two times Onirim had let me win thanks to the single last card in the deck. This game seems really, really balanced (maybe the basic game + Towers expansion is too easy).

Anyway, great session report. Guy, are you also waiting impatiently for the new entry in the series, Shadi Torbey's "Equilibrion"? Should be out soon and the graphics are even better than in "Onirim". Personally can't wait.
