My group has decided to remove the flood token from our games. We find it alters the board far too dramatically. It is hard enough to build a good board at the start of the game just to have it completely screwed by the flood token. It is a fun idea but just messes with the board too much.

Seems reasonable. I think most of the options in BOW are optional right?

Yeah I was just sharing our experience.

In our last game, one player's pinchpoint ended up with a flood token. He had no fliers so had to wait for it to ice over. We said that that match had a stronger "Winter Is Coming" feel than any match of A Game of Thrones.

I have also removed the Flood tokens from my box.
Lousy two straight games screwed over by the lousy flood token...

I agree with everyone here as well. PBF game 8 was plagued by 2 flood tokens.

I quite like them. When are people seeing problems? Is it just in areas where someone gets cut off from the other players?
Could be easily houseruleable if that's the case, without removing them all together.
EDIT: PBF 8, where's that?

It greatly hinders questing heroes as well. What are the chances of using a strategize in the winter? And with a stratigize order the destination location must be friendly or unoccupied. Not very likely, especially as the game progresses.
So our brave heroes cannot cross a river. Without the flood tiles, a hero could make do.
With the flood tiles, our heroes are a sad crew indeed.

Quote: Any ideas? Maybe it's only blocked in spring? Sort of like Spring flooding as winter ice melts? Thematically makes sense, doesn't block heroes, but still creates an interesting tactical situation.

My friends and I had the "cut off from the other players" situation occur due to flooding. He was trapped in his starting area with just a few low resource areas, behind that 4 hex bizarro tile from the expansion that is sometimes impossible to place and the flood tile that popped up in the first quest phase.
He ended up getting out eventually one winter and managed to capture another area, but I think that wasn't until the 7th year of 8 that we were playing. Still, it was a pretty epic game.

Perhaps it should only flood 2 or 3 sides of the tile. Like the seasonal approach though.
