I know this has been discussed but from what I have read the comments have been conflicting. Some say this game scales well with any number of players, some say that the 2 players game is even a little better as you have more strategy with the ghost ship. And I read also that with 2 players there isn't much fighting. It is the latter that concerns me, if I buy this game I want some conflict! Thanks for any input.

2 player is terrible. Maybe better than 3, but 3 isn't that good. You need 4-6 players for this game to shine. Best with 6, IMO. Don't bother if you only want it for 2p.

I was absolutely convinced we would buy this when I learned about it, but we rented a copy from our FLGS and gave the 2-player a shot (the number we play most often), and felt it was decidedly not a 2-player game.

We're often just fine with games that are not usually popular with 2, but the ghost ship (for us) didn't make it interesting enough to warrant a buy.

Two cents...

We like the 2p. There is fighting, it's just that it's usually just done with the "ghost ship" (i.e. dummy player) and not as much with each other. It's kind of fun to "sick the ghost ship" on the other player.

It is very light though - not a heavy strategy game regardless of # players.

I like elephants. I like how they swing through trees.

I also like the 2p game, and would agree that of all versions, it's probably the most tactical. Still light and very random, but the choices you make will have more of a direct effect.

Opinions still seem split on this. Anybody know of a good 2 player pirate game? I have Pirate's Cove, and I like it a lot, but it rarely gets played since it takes 3 players.

Martinique is a pretty good pirate game that plays two, but it plays only two which might be a downside for you. We feel it has that trying to find for treasure aspect that you would expect out of pirates. I have also heard good things about Rum & Pirates with 2, but have not played it myself. I too would like Jamaica but am on the fence because the majority of my gaming is with just two.
