I'm not sure to how to go about making a request for something like this, but I think Hive Carbon should have a seperate listing from the regular Hive game. If it has one, I haven't been able to find it. Is there a way to make that happen?
-
-
No it shouldn't. It's the EXACT SAME GAME just a different skin. That's why BGG has the ability to choose 'Versions' to distinguish between the different versions.
Should we also have Simpsons Chess and Harry Potter Chess be listed as different games from their predecessor just because the pieces look different?

Chris, you can already specify "Carbon" as the version of the game you own. Scroll down to the user info section on the game page, and then do the following.

Care to explain these then?
Puerto Rico vs. Puerto Rico: Limited Anniversary Edition
War of the Ring vs. War of the Ring Collector's Edition
Also, it's not the "EXACT SAME GAME", as it includes things NOT found in the original version of the base game.

It seems a bit unfair to ask a non-admin to rationalise the inconsistencies of the BGG database.

Instead of saying "No, it' shouldn't" the correct answer is probably "Who the !@#$ knows?"

You can well support one position or the other without understanding how the admins go about it. That said: Down with uncontrolled proliferation!

There really is no logically when talking about the BGG versions policy. There are more than enough other examples in the database where editions with various expansions are lumped in with the base game, e.g. The Princes of Florence, The Pillars of the Earth, ...

And Pocket Hive is coming too...
Should that have it's own entry? It also comes with both expansions...

Hive ...
Hive Carbon ... Hive Pocket ...
They are all the same game They should have ONE listing
When I want to know what is going on in the Hive community, I don't want to have to look in more than one place.

But... Dominion intrigue is a base game isn't it?

Thank you for that simple answer. My point was that since it includes the expansions, I thought it would make more sense than having to say I own Hive, Hive: The Ladybug, and Hive: The Mosquito. Being relatively new, I hadn't noticed the option to choose the edition. That makes sense too.

I can appreciate that, but in my experience, at least from what I could tell, the forums are linked to parent game. When you look at the forums under all the different Carcassonne or Munchkin expansions, they are all the same.

Nope, they display the base game forums in addition to the expansion forums. They are separate.

There are multiple entries for Monopoly, and I was even geekmailed when I tried to add 'Belfast' as a version, and directed to this link: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/Monopoly_Fiat
However, this is explicitly an exception to the general idea that different 'skins' of the same game should appear under the same entry.

So here is another question. What happens if a person owns the regular or original version and then gets the Carbon version. It doesn't seem like there is a way to list that you own more than one copy of a game, or more than one version of the same game. How do you go about that? I can see it being relevant for something like the Munchkin Jumbo Dice. There are 8 different pairs available right now, what if you own them all? It only lets you choose one version. At least as far as I can tell. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

hehehe I once ended up with a couple "copies" of some random game and didn't reliaze it till a year later...by then I had ranked and commented on each "copy" seperately! I may have even had different rankings!
As for the original question, given the usability of the BGG database, and it seems to me the OP now agrees...the answer from me would be no.
