I thought I read a universal TTR game aid that said when you go for tickets for routes, you must take one. Didn't know if there was an errata for the initial rules.

If it is none, what's to prevent you mining for as many of a specific big city tickets to win them and not be stuck with unhelpful routes? (i.e. routes that don't add to getting a specific big city bonus)

If all the players did this it would be "take tickets" for the first few rounds until there aren't any good ones left or any tickets left....

Thoughts?

Rather than relying upon a player aid, you can visit here and see the rules for yourself.

http://www.daysofwonder.com/tickettoride/en/cardgame/

They say,

The player draws 4 new Destination Tickets from the top of the Ticket deck. He can keep any number of them, including none. Unwanted Tickets are placed back to the bottom of the Ticket deck.

so you can take none, but the cards you viewed are still in play.
