We're pushed to the brink of civil war once again, and need the weight of the masses on our side. So, masses, name that capitol planet:

MECH-a-tol REX

m'CAT-ol REX

In the interest of SCIENCE, I have created a poll…

Poll: How do YOU pronounce "Mecatol Rex"?
It's crowd-sourcing time! How do you pronounce the name "Mecatol Rex"?

I have heard a third interpretation as well.
MEE ca-tol Rex

My knowledge about imperial phonetic and linguistic may not be up to date, but I would go with

ˈmɛkɑːtɒl rɛks

Why?
Well, after studying the IPA table and stressing rules I honestly don't know anymore...so, it's a gut feeling from a non-native speaker..cool

I don't think so, there is no vowel following and /k/ is a fortis consonant sound which makes the /e/ a shorter vowel.

May not be proper but I have heard it done that way. Probably due to the varied dialects and accents. Many of the same words in American English are used with long vowels were the same words in British English are soft.

Since I like it when threads are rounded out, I'm going to call this one done.

The official unofficial crowdsourced answer is:

MECH-a-tol REX

with

m'CAT-ol REX
and
MEE-ca-tol REX

both in distant, distant last place.

The murmurs of civil war are dying down. Perhaps now, finally, the galaxy may be at peace.

edit: as long as no one talks about the Xxcha.

If I ever play the Emirates of Hacan, I will pronounce it Meowcatol Rex.

I say Mehk-a-tohl Rex, but have heard Mehk-a-tahl as well. I think my way is consistent with Latin phonetics, but I don't stress over it.

...what about the "Emirates?"

Is that pronounced "Emirate of 'Ha-SSS-ahn'" or "Emirates of 'Ha-KKK-ahn?'"

Personally, I've always said "meh-KAH-tahl REX."

I guess I'm the odd one out that way.

This. The "Rex" suggests latin.

Which would make the consistent phonetic

Mek-a-tohl Rex.
(Like Mc from McDonalds, a, to(we)l)

Of course, i believe that "Mech" also uses a "hard finish", but reads weird to me, as it would end the same as "chances" starts. We need someone that is well-versed in phonetic script to properly write it, i think we're on the same page.
