I've had that project going on for a while now, of a set of illustrations for Titan, in a style that differs both form the revered original, and from the 3D of the valley games edition.
I'll upload as I finalize them, feel free to comment!

You are killing me! How many of your utterly amazing redesigns of games I already own am I going to be forced to make before you start doing them for games I don't own yet?!

Spoiler (mouseover to reveal): Cough, Divine Right, The Warlord Game, Aliens, Assault on Hoth, John Carter: Warlord of Mars, etc... cough.

What would truly make this awesome is if, like the revered original, you had a unique variation on the image for each individual chit for each creature.

wow, 2nd post, that was quick. I'd love to be the guy who will pull off that one. Don't know if I'm him.

Not my fault if you're buying the same games as I do... (also *blush*)

This is a very clean layout. I like it. What I can see right away is that if I glanced at a board with counters in this style of art, I could easily distinguish the different creatures at a glance. A definite plus in my book.

Sorry I may have come off disparaging. What I should have said is that what would make this super-mega-awesome instead of just awesome...

Why is the power number in a brown circle? I'd like it if the two numbers were the same font/color/size.
But nitpicking aside: OMG I can't wait to see the finished product.

Not at all! I was expecting a post about that aspect, as I know very well that the variable illustrations by Trampier are what set the AH / gorgonstar editions apart. There was no reason to apologize; I'm just allowing myself the possibility of not doing it, just to avoid being daunted by the task and giving up.

Just for reference, we both own the FFG edition of Cosmic Encounters but please, for the love of all that is gaming - do not redo Dune (I already have the two rethemes plus the AH game)!
The first step is admitting you have a problem...

I'm sure you've already thought about it but I bet you could lessen the effort to individualize the creatures by making a base body then mix and matching the arms/legs in different configurations; arms crossed, arms akimbo, one arm waving, etc...

haha, Dune is already well served here, I'm not sure I could bring anything meaningful to the awesome redesigns that are already in the archive.

Yes that's how I'd do it *if* I do. Technology wonders, and all.

by the way, what kind of technology DO you use for that? Illustrator or photoshop? or something completely different? Indesign (with pages for counters?)? very curious (trying to set up a workflow for designing redesigns).
again, splendid redesign.

Looks nice!
Just a couple of suggestions, if you're interested.
1. Why not make the type and numbers green, as well? One of the things that made the early graphics so recognizable from a distance was that the whole counter was one solid color. Don't get me wrong, I like that there is color variation within the graphic, but I think the color of the text is overlooked as an identifying part of the counter.
2. How about a weapon? Axe, club, mace. Some people liked the double axes.

I echo these sentiments, I think the unifying colors on the AH version per character chit was a good creature identification method.

Now the Minotaur
good ideas and advice all around, keep it coming.
My idea on differentiating strike and skill on the counter is to make it more easily picked when fighting on the battle boards. Might not be that useful for veteran players, but it might help noobs... not set in stone though.
Color, hmmm... I see the point, but in the AH edition several monsters had the same color (dragon/griffon/archangel/unicorn/serpent all orange). I'm trying to make them all a different color, so that they shouldn't be as confusing even if the rest of the token is brown... we'll see.

I don't think so... but maybe.
What point is it (am I) missing?

I think the only reason multiple creatures were the same color in the old set is because the 8 counter sheets were offset printed 1-color. And they had many more than 8 creatures.
Since you're designing them "full color" I don't see any reason why each creature couldn't have slightly different colored type, which would help with differentiation even more!
Just a suggestion.

Awesome project, by the way. If I didn't have (and adore) the VG reprint, I would probably homebrew this to go along with my carthaginian BOHNANZA and PUERTO RICO.
