I played DMZ for the first time some months ago and I found that it left a bad taste in my mouth.
I started to reread the rules to see if there where any little quirks that I missed and perhaps spoiled the gaming experience.

I didn't find one, except that I didn't use the overrun system (which in my book make absolutely no sense at all). BUT, since it's in the rules I decided to redeploy my units and try it once more.
This time keeping close track of what I was doing, so that it:
1) Could be posted here.
2) I could make a detailed review for the game.

Basics:
I deployed the units in a broad sense, with the mass of the hamer on the west end of the DMZ, so that Seoul is in short reach and the terrain is the easiest to travel on.
Some smaller units are deployed more to the east to prevent the US/ROK units from entering NK-towns and shortening the period in which to achieve victory.
I'm playing solo and the game doesn't have any secret information, so it should be a balanced set-up.

Turn 1 - NKPA:
5 units from Changpung move into the DMZ, 2 can move through getting in line to attack 2 ROK units,
The 602nd heavy artillery leg-unit advances deep into SK to attack a 3rd ROK-div.

Attack:
First attack across river fails (+10 diff. Rolls a 6)
Second attack across river shows EX (+8 diff. Rolls a 2)
Third attack (28 point diff.) to mixed is a 2 (D3 result) 3 NKPA units advance
Fourth attack (22 point diff) across river. Result D2 (rolls a 1)

Mobile movement:
4 units (NKPA) move south across the DMZ.
VII Inf. Army uses road to go from Tusan to the south of the DMZ

Mobile attack:
All 4 mobile units use overrun. Rolling a 3, 2, 2, and 2.
1 ROK unit can’t retreat and is eliminated.

In the game specific rules.

If word it correctly from my mind it's:
If a players attack strenght is higher then the enemy's Movement Allowance an Overrun attempt can be done.

Just throw a Die (1d6) and consult the chart.
50% change of a positive result.
Terrain doesn't matter (?!).

Thanks Mark.

I'm guessing that I'll finish it this week (it's a busy week).
I'll try to keep up with the AAR's.

Turn 3 and later will be posted as comments to this session report in the coming week.

No offense, but this is the first I've seen of an incomplete session report being posted, and I can't say I like it. In fact I wonder what's the point of approving sessoin reports if they'll let an incomplete report in. Seems to me, you write this up off-line until your game is done, then pull it all together with some nice introdutory and concluding remarks. To me it's not a session report until it's a complete product...

Again, no offense and this seems like a good start, but that's really all it is, a good start....

I'm not offended, but it seems that you haven't read that many session reports here on the Geek.
Most of my Session reports are broken into bits, with the information still clearly in your head.
A lot of other session reports are partial sessions for that very reason.

I found that this game didn't have anything in the forums, so a session report or 2 won't break the forum. (This might be different for a game like TS).

I'm glad you like the format and that you regard it a good start, but if you want to be constructive, be a geekmodder and block these kind of session reports or report them afterwards to the moderators, instead of complaining here.

Cheers, Haring

I didn't want to "report" anything, not trying to make a big issue. I just thought this "as you go" style was more appropiate as a post on CSW (which I see you've done) than as, what I think of as, a complete session report.

I've actually read probably 100 Session reports, and written two dozen or so, never seen it done like this. But as I say, no offense, and certainly don't let me spoil your game. I do look forward to seeing how you like it.

Hmm, rats. I want to like this game, there was a few mesages on CSW from people who enjoyed it, I think mostly from the puzzle aspect of how to best play it, but I haven't seen anybody say nice things about it as a simulation, even a light one. Which is disappointing, but then my expereince with a couple of other folio games has also been forgettable. I didn't even bother to write up a session report

Well it's funny, cause it's lost all connection to reality.
It reminds me of Paths of glory, where a depleted corps can destroy an entire army, simply by moving accross its supply line.

Oh well, I said I'd give it try to make sure, it wasn't just me who was playing it wrong. It turned out, I wasn't wrong.

Cheers, Haring
