On Weds I played BSG. In seating order we had:

Chief
I was Laura Roslin (President)
Saul Tigh (Admiral)
Boomer
Helo

Everything was fine until the sleeper phase, no obvious Cylon activity, everything that went wrong could be explained by Destiny or just an unlucky roll.
I managed to do some presidenting, building up a quorum hand despite being Laura Roslin, though I shouldn't have because Tigh was in the game and Admiral (he can just steal your whole hand of Quorum cards).

At Half time, Population was good, Morale had dipped to the middle, food was almost full, fuel was a little tight, but that's normal. We lost more raptors than average and still had both nukes.

Boomer starts openly sabotaging things from the Brig, and uses her OPG to auto fail a crisis costing us 2 Morale, then revealed. Morale dipped down to 3. At one point I made a choice to lose 2 food rather than 1 food and 5 cards (food was good and we were slightly card poor at the time). Chief revealed, though I think that was a bad move - there was no need to reveal, he was not under suspicion and has a good Cylon skill set (2 blue and 1 yellow - good for sabotage and resisting the Admirals Quarters).

Both the nukes got used, but a super crisis brought in 2 new basestars, the other Super Crisis was fleet mobilisation. It wasn't such a bad situation for it, because even if we lost all our civilians on the board (about 6 ships) we'd still be okay (pop was about 9). However the fail on Fleet mobilisation includes -1 morale as a kicker, and morale was dicey, so we poured a ton of cards into (difficulty 24), scoring 30+ for a pass. At one point it looked like Galactica might be destroyed by basestars, with 3 damage sustained and 2 revealed Cylons shooting with 2 basestars. We jumped before the Cylon raiders destroyed any civvies.

I used my once per game to increase Morale by 1 via inspirational speech, so we had 4 morale and the end of the game was closer. We'd lost a lot of food however from a string of food crisis cards and Riots. The endgame came down to the wire, with the humans winning for certain on the next turn, unless Boomer could kill us via food (on 1) on her turn. She had a choice whether to shoot with 2 basestars and hopefully hit the Galactica Food damage token, or go to Caprica and draw 2 crisis cards. She chose Caprica and gave us Legendary Discovery (normally a great card, but not when you're at distance 8). The fail is -1 food, 14 red/purple. Laura Roslin can't help, and Tigh and Helo were low on those colours, so we failed and lost the game to food.

Love your character selection! I only really play Roslin or Tigh. Roslin is the ultimate though with her ability being able to look at two cards from the crisis deck and playing one on her turn!!! Someone must have really wanted to be a Cylon being Boomer though lol

I like Tigh, but only as the Admiral. If he's not Admiral then his OPG power is not so good, so I'll normally pick Adama instead in case someone else does.

Roslin is fun to play, and is good Cylon or Human.

I don't like Chief as his power are a bit ehh., though I should probably give him another spin some time.

Boomer is fun to play, it doesn't automatically make you a Cylon like some people think it does, it's just 1 extra card. You've got to figure out how you're going to get out of the brig, or, if you're a Cylon, is it better to sit there launching scouts and openly sabotaging skill checks and reconning bad cards? Red/Red/Blue is great for sabotage.

Helo's cool, that re-roll is really nice, but again I'll normally take Adama if he's available.

yeah, Boomer and Baltar are Cylons a lot less often than new players think - in a 5 player game with just one of them playing, that one has a 27/55 chance of being a Cylon (just under half), compared to 19/55 for each other player (just over a third). Of course, if you're in the game yourself, holding two Not A Cylon cards, Baltar/Boomer has a 7/12 chance of being a Cylon compared to 5/12 for anyone else (if you have one of the Cylon cards, the chances are 3/9 and 2/9 respectively) so, while, if you have no evidence to point the finger at anyone, Balter/Boomer is the most likely suspect, it's worth keeping an open mind.

Do you guys play the revealed cylon characters often? My mate did it in our group the other day and it really added some spice. He ended up being a good cylon and I was privy to his crisis card actions as I played after him and told the others to let him help us out. Of course he could have been playing me from the start but he just aint that smart shake

If you guys do play the revealed cylons can you give me some advice on who is a keeper in this regard?

Also, do you guys execute Roslin early game to prevent her from continually using her ability if you are a cylon? I am rarely a cylon and havent played against anyone who is her (as she is normally the one I choose). This is what i would lean toward and would probably be more worthwhile even if you forewent your super crisis card

Six is probably the best Sympathetic Cylon Leader; Cavil the best Hostile.

Roslin's ability to pick between two Crises on her turn is powerful for either side. I reckon you lose as much by executing Human Roslin as you gain by executing Cylon Roslin, so, unless you have reason to suspect her, you're better off leaving her alive (though she's even better when someone else is President...)

Can someone please explain to me the appeal of being Saul Tigh? Because I honestly never got it. His OPG is only useful if one of two very specific players is a cylon and his OPT requires the use of the admirals quarters, something that rarely comes up in my games even before I got Pegasus. And I have seen that negative ability come up against him way too often for a suite of situational powers. I always preferred Adama's abilities. I like making skill checks a little easier, the ability to replenish his hand after a critical skill check is always nice and while he can't activate AQ, his skill draw means he virtually always has an XO on hand to get someone to do it for him. Yeah, he can't brig someone as a soft reveal, but the great power of being Admiral is selecting a series of sub-par jumps to drain the humans of fuel.
As for the cylon leaders discussed above, all are pretty good. I tend to leans towards Cavil because he is not hampered by a movement ability I would like to activate every turn and has the least restrictive negative ability with a pretty boss OPG, though that OPT can be pretty hostile if necessary (though shifts in the opposite direction if playing with Exodus and the cylon fleet board). Leoben is a beast pure and simple, especially in four player games. Leoben on Human Fleet means he has a nice hand of skill cards and the ability to toy with destiny. His negative absolutely sucks, especially with New Caprica. Six is good, but I generally just like her less than the other two. Big plus to her is she draws leadership for a potential XO when she is sympathetic.
Also, good session report. Stinks about the two engineers being cylons. Stinks more with the untimely legendary discovery.

I've had great fun with him as a soft revealed Cylon. One game I got 3 out of the other 4 players in the Brig, making me Admiral, then declared martial law to become President. Yeah I brigged my teammate, but that's collateral. Another game I did something similar.

Not really, Roslin makes a good engineer: Consolidate power into 2 blues, and anyone can use the Press room or Research labs if need be.

I wrote this from the viewpoint of being a cylon that has not revealed themselves yet. So my question is simply this, is Roslin worth executing more than taking a super crisis card? (knowing that she is not a cylon as you drew the cylon card during the first phase)

Ah. I misunderstood your question. Given that you know Roslin is not a Cylon (not automatic in a 5-6 player game), and you have an opportunity to execute her, it's probably worth doing - depriving humanity of her Religious Visions early probably does more for the Cylon cause than a random Super Crisis does. And if you're using the Pegasus Cylon locations, you can always say on the Resurrection Ship and draw Super Crises for a few turns anyway - if they execute you and you spend your turn drawing a Super Crisis, it's almost the same as you spending your turn revealing (you end up with one skill card rather than the best three from your old hand, and don't get to use your reveal power).

Saul Tigh, or, as he is sometimes known in my circles, John McCain.

First, there's the appeal of being an angry drunken officer. Calling out frakkin' Cylons and going around acting like you have an eyepatch is not to be discounted.

Second, I think many of us will agree that Adama and Tigh have been pretty sad, from a game mechanic standpoint, since Cain came out. She is the Admiral, has a strictly superior skill draw, not much of a drawback, and a crazybroken OPG.

If you ignore Cain, though, as my groups (are coerced to) do, Tigh is much more reasonable. He has a great skill draw, probably better than Adama's. He still almost always gets the XO. He CAN brig on a soft reveal, and will often succeed. He starts in Command - not relevant most of the game, I suppose, but a great initial spot for XOs.

He's for a more aggressive style of military leadership. Give him another try!
