Picked up the base set, Call to Arms, 100 Years War, Earth Elemental, and Bearded Brave Dwarvem pack for around $130 including shipping off of an Ebay auction.
I will look to complete my collection with Goblin Marauder and Skirmisher, Hill Giant, Scottish Wars, Troll and Country, Epic, and Dwarven Battalion.
Still not sure if I will take the plunge into the FFGs or not.
Something still bothers me slightly. I'm sure it's been discussed, but why would Days of Wonder sell this game series to FFG? It seems to have a pretty good following...

It is an awesome game that costs a pretty penny to produce (and paint

Just pick up what you can, when you can.
"Bearded Brave" is an FFG supplement, just so you know.

I was watching that auction! (for a second 100 year's war set, and the promo).
But welcome to the club! I would recommend getting the FFG sets - they're still readily available, cheap, and at the very least give you some great plastic to house-rule.

I've been reading through the threads over the years. I remember this as why Days of Wonder sold Battlelore to FFG.
Days of Wonder had an agreement with a company that made the components for the game at a very low pricepoint for a few years. The company just wanted the initial business. Days of Wonder was reaching the end of the agreement when they sold to FFG since there would have been a drastic price hike and/or they would have lost a good portion of their profit margin.
FFG apparently understimated the cost increase of the components and hasn't produced the base game since buying the Battlelore name. Instead they produced their own game, Battle of Westeros, under the Battlelore brand. FFG has produced some expansions for Battlelore, however they sold all the Battlelore stock recently at the Christmas sale at really low prices. This is an indication that the line is likely dead (no new expansions).
It's a shame the line is likely dead. I think this game is one of the best out there.

The problem is, the more people keep declaring it is dead and steering away potential interest, the less likely FFG continues with the line. Instead, focus your energy by sending emails to FFG (since they don't really respond on the BGG forums) telling them how much you like the game and want it brought back.

Here's that thread Coltsfan was speaking to...

It is a glimmer of hope from Richard Borg. I just wish I'd hear something from FFG.
Another interesting tidbit in the thread was that Richard Borg's agreement with FFG seems to preclude him from doing any other version of "C&C:Fantasy." So FFG has the C&C:Fantasy market in their hands at this moment and it's up to them whether they take advantage of it.
I love the Battlelore game. I think these people unloading the game since it appears FFG isn't supporting it in the future are crazy. It's a classic in my opinion as it stands today. If there are more expansions ever to come out in the future, it'll be gravy.

A couple of weeks, along with a wallet that's about $360 lighter, and I was able to acquire everything (took the plunge on ffg expansions too). I even bought the lulu rulebook since about four of the expansions were repurposed. May look to acquire the English versions of those eventually as well. Being a completist really stinks sometimes! I hope I like this game... I haven't even received the first one in the mail yet... Lol
Once I get everything sorted and the rules read, I think I'll give the vassal game a go. Hopefully that will help me teach others how to play. I'm familiar with memoir 44 (have a complete set of that as well), so I'm thinking it won't be too bad. Being a big lord of the rings fan, I'm thinking I may like this one even better than mem 44. We'll see...
