We were on a mission for good. At least I considered it a mission for good. Nine of us were set to demolish the enemy HQ building. We found the building had five different structural points, and we needed to destroy only three of them to render it uninhabitable.
The nine of us had been together from the beginning, but something went wrong last mission. We tried to get past it, but our equipment did not. Several of our equipment packs were sabotaged, so we couldn't all go on the missions. We would have to wait until later missions to send more people and pick who we trusted.
I reviewed the mission plans -- we could send 3 of us on the first mission, 4 on the second and third, and 5 on the fourth and fifth. It would take sabotage efforts from more than one spy on the fourth mission to stop it, but the others could be sabotaged by one person. We'd be unable to check each other's work on the missions, so we'd have to consider carefully who to send.
We all knew each other well enough; there were several couples but we felt comfortable around each other. Agent 4 insisted he thought a few of us looked suspicious, but didn't say who. The next night we sat in a group to plan our first mission. I felt ready to go but asked for suggestions for other members. Agent 9 suggested I send Agents 2 and 3, one of the couples. We had no real reason to suspect anyone specifically, so that sounded fair enough. I was ready for the mission to start.
We each inspected our equipment, then left for the enemy HQ. Explosives were set up on the building, and I could hear the couple leaving before I did. I wondered what they were doing, but soon enough we all were back at the meeting point, a field not far from the building. A few cows and hay bales were out in the distance. Once everyone was there, we started to detonate the building. Instantly hay and an unfortunate cow went flying through the air.
Team members gave betrayed looks our way. They thought they could trust us. Who had moved the explosives? I knew the couple would suspect me over their partner, but I explained my innocence to the group. They wanted nothing to do with us at the moment. Agent 2 wanted to prove himself, but some of us felt we couldn't trust him again. For some reason, I felt like I could trust him. His (or another member's) suggestion for himself, Agent 6, Agent 7, and Agent 8 was approved narrowly, and we sent them on the mission.
It seemed like they took longer than we expected, and we didn't see them until an hour later when they came back. We started the detonation with some giving unsure looks to the haystacks, but sure enough, part of the building was destroyed. The mission had succeeded.
We really hadn't expected the success. We could only send four members again, and we couldn't imagine anyone wanting to mess with success. Agent 3 suggested the same team of Agent 2, Agent 6, Agent 7, Agent 8. We sent them off and hoped the team was right. It had worked last time. As they returned, we were ready to get one step closer (or farther) from our goal.
As we detonated the third part, it was destroyed as easily as the second. Nothing had been sabotaged. The team seemed to be on a roll with this. Had the group picked a clean team? The fourth mission seemed resistant to sabotage, but required one more person to run smoothly. We weren't sure about Agent 4 (was he spying on us earlier when he made the accusation?) but we let him make a suggestion. Even if he added himself to the team, it would need two spies trying to sabotage in order to fail. It didn't seem enough to mess with success, so we sent Agent 4 and the previous four agents.
The group left and were at the building for a while longer. They had to spread out, but they arrived back at our meeting spot not too long after. If they did the job correctly, the building would be done. We started to detonate but no sound came from the building. We tried again and it became apparent not one, but two hay bales were on fire. Now Agent 4 seemed really suspicious -- he protested and stated his innocence, and stated he had seen Agent 1 and Agent 2 act suspicious. Agent 6 and I were tired of Agent 2 and we weren't pleased with Agent 4 either (especially me, who he accused of being suspicious). We were generally annoyed all around.
Discussion set out among the other agents. Could they trust the accusations from Agent 4 after the last mission? Should I be excluded from the next mission? Could Agent 2 be trusted? We hadn't seen anything from agents 6, 7, and 8, but it seemed like Agent 5 didn't trust Agent 7. He instead suggested himself, Agent 6, Agent 8, Agent 9, and me (Agent 1). We got ready to go on the mission.
This mission seemed to take longer than the last. Agent 5 and Agent 9 had not been on any missions previously, but they seemed to leave first. We met up near the previous meeting spot, with several hay bales fairly far away. It seemed like the rest of the team was at the meeting spot, and the team prepared to try and detonate the last part of the HQ building.
Around us, we started the process to detonate the remaining part of the building, but nothing happened. Then suddenly the three hay bales shot out explosives, and soon we noticed there was no more hay. That was the extent of what the team had accomplished -- blowing up food and making a mess. The HQ stayed strong in the distance as the team looked on unpleasantly. They didn't notice me exchanging glances of approval with Agent 6 and Agent 8. We knew moving those explosives was the best way we could maintain our foothold as spies. As spies we met later and discussed our achievements.

Whenever I read one of these session reports, I always read it under the assumption that the narrator is one of the spies. Even if the story starts off "I was Resistance", I don't believe it.
Glad to see I had the right idea this time.
