As far as I know, it is just a German translated version of the original game, where they have fixed the few printing errors in the base game (regarding two gods' conditions for getting Dial Advancement Tokens).

ASL ... yes, this is my Desert Island Game. If I have to give up all my 3000+ games and only allowed to keep one, this would be it. This bloody game stood the test of time. Around for more than 25 years - simply the best.

However the original cover is still my favorite cover of all time for a board game. It's just so stricking and original.

It's just too "in your face". I like the old one better and I suspect that the kind of audience that will be attracted by the new design might not get from the game what they expect after all.

Personally, I don't think it would get the game noticed more in your collection, on a shelf in a store it would depend how it is displayed and I also believe that any self respecting geek/board gamer would already know of chaos in the old world or know of the Warhammer franchise at least and take a look at the back of the box for details of the game. So in summary your all wrong, the box is awesome, the game rocks and everyone would notice and look at it lol.
But to answer Johan's original question, yes it's just a new art cover not a new game.

I got a brand new copy of the English CitoW and it has the same new Nurgle cover. Also the symbols of the four chaos powers have been slightly altered (on the tokens and the cards).
The rule book is exactly the same as the old version except the new cover. To my surprise the FAQ have not been incorporated in the rule book, nor included in the box as a sheet.

This is really a very good game and absolutely worth to be in every collection - but as you've already heard/read for 4 players! Since the expansion, also with 5. And IMHO the expansion fits nice and smooth into the game!

I doubt it's a good alternative to Starcraft ..
I'll probably get it at some time but I don't know whatever it's a smart move because I doubt it will be played a lot .. So pretty stupid I think.
You are all free to write all you want about it, the expansion, how it plays, how it plays vs other area control games or RTS games, what the expansion brings to it, how often you've played it, how long you think one can play it without getting bored of it, compared to space area control games or whatever.
