Just played India for the first time last weekend. I have not seen a TTR map this in-your-face. There are a lot of one-train routes right in the middle of the board - easy to take, easy to block and they are all likely to cut-off many tickets. Definitely not for TTR newbies or those easily, er, offended. Friendly-play TTRers need not apply - better stick to Europe.

India with 4 and 2 were doable - very tight, but reasonable. India with 3 is just mean. I think we'll probably use double-routes when we play it with 3....

I knew there was a reason we put this gameplay hint first: "the India map rewards players for claiming key routes early (to avoid being crowded out)"
For those who are interested, the design diary (in the blogs section) describes some of things that help make the map tense, without it becoming excessively brutal.

We played it for the first time Friday, with 4 people. Holy moly it's brutal. And, we had trouble ending the game because we all had a ton of trains and nowhere to put them.
I think, if your gaming group isn't into vicious competition, it might be better to play India under the Switzerland rules - 2 players (single tracks or 3 players (double tracks), and/or 40 trains.

I need to see Volume 1 get some more plays before I can convince my better half to approve buying this. But I'm looking forward to it!

Is it just as brutal with 2P or does it only get that tight and "mean" with more?
In multiplayer games my wife handles confrontation quite well so I'm less concerned with that, but when it's head to head, she's incapable of handling cut-throat games with grace.
I'm looking for another solid 2-player map like Nordic that provides a challenge without being unavoidably in-your-face.

My 2 cents is yes - more brutal with 2p than even Nordic and Switzerland. I've played all the TTR maps, and I think this one is the most confrontational. Which I like, but not with my wife necessarily

Okay, good to know. Have you tried the Legendary Asia side of the other new map expansion with 2?
Was hoping to add some variety without resorting to another full base game like USA/Europe. May just have to go the print and play route if the non-team Asia map doesn't fit the bill.

We've found Nordic to be more confrontational for two players than India is. At least when it comes to completing tickets (though India of course give players possibilities to stop each other's Grand tours).
Legendary Asia is not so confrontational for two players (in our opinion), but offers a lot of tactics and planning, as the mountain routes make it possible to either saving train cars (and getting more tickets), or finishing the game early.
