I'm eyeing and reading about this game since its release and finally decided that I'm going to buy the base game plus all currently available expansions.
But what exactly do I need to buy in the Eagle Games store? I'm a bit overwhelmed by the overlapping possibilities presented overthere.
I specifically want to be sure to acquire all the available prepainted miniatures.
Any detailled advice? Many thanks!

I'm pretty sure what you need to buy is:
1) The special offer "Buy the game and get the original characters and generals painted" here:
http://www.eaglegames.net/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=EGL...
2) The Errant Paladin card (if you want the alternate version)
3) All three hero packs. When you buy all three, you get the prepainted versions of the minis as well.
4) Dragon expansion
That should do it. You'll get the barbarian as part of #1. The only other thing you may want that's "official" so far are the Gobal Effects Cards, but I don't think they have them on the Eagle store. You can get them on the BGG store, but beware that if you want all 28 you'll need to buy a couple of packs, and then probably do some trading. See the forums here for more info:

Have fun! I have the painted minis, and they're fantastic to play with.

You'll get global effects cards in the hero packs and the dragon expansion, so I'd wait to see what cards you get before buying more from the BGG store.

The Global Effects Cards in the Dragon Expansion are a different set.
OP: You will get 18 Global Effects Cards from the 3 Hero Expansions, so you need at least one BGG promo pack to have 28 cards total. Then, once you've inventoried the cards, you will have multiples of some cards and missing others. This is where the Global Effects Cards trade list comes in.

Order the items with the following titles: 2012 Special! Defenders of the Realm! Order the base game and receive the Pre-Painted bundle of Original Heroes and Generals & Barbarian Expansion for FREE!
Defenders of the Realm - Errant Paladin Card (Available now!)* See description for shipping information*
Defenders of the Realm: Hero Expansion #1 Available Now
Defenders of the Realm: Hero Expansion #2 Available Now
Defenders of the Realm: Hero Expansion #3 Available Now
The above will get you all of the pre-painted minis and hero cards. It seems the Eagle has the best price around for the game + minis. There is a note section at the end of the order you can add some words saying how you want the painted mini for the Hero Expansions since you are ordering all three. As confusing as their ordering process seems they do seem to get everything out quickly and complete. Just be prepared for one big box...
The Dragon expansion can be found cheaper ($40 US Amazon vs $60 US Eagle) and there is no bonus for buying directly from Eagle. The word is that once the Dragon expansion run out they will not be making anymore, so best to get this early.
The Global Effect trading list is a great way to get all the Global Effect Cards but you can wait a bit on that. You probably won't want to use them in your games at first as they add a bit of challenge to an already tough game.

Many thanks for all your replies.
I indeed bought everything except the Dragons expansion because of the already heavy price tag.

If you know you want everything right now, are willing spend about $40 more and enjoy having everything pre-painted, then the Eagle Games deal is the way to go. If you want to save $40 and go piece-meal (if you're not sure you'll buy anything after the base game) then Amazon is a safer choice.
From Eagle Games: $85 Base (free) Amazon $75 Hero Exp. $38 Dragon Exp. (from Amazon) $198 Total
From Amazon: $56 Base (free shipping) $6 Amazon (free shipping) $54 Hero Exp. $38 Dragon Exp. (from Amazon) $154 Total

What's confusing me about the bundle of three hero packs is whether or not you get the cards as well.Because it states "pre painted figures only"...is there a different Heroes bundle I should be looking at?

In my earlier post I listed the exact titles of what you need to order to get all the painted minis, hero cards, and base game. You really can buy the Dragon anywhere as nothing extra comes with it from Eagle.
The exact names of the Hero packs to buy are:
Defenders of the Realm: Hero Expansion #1 Available Now
Defenders of the Realm: Hero Expansion #2 Available Now
Defenders of the Realm: Hero Expansion #3 Available Now
The above names are normal hero packs with cards and unpainted minis. You will not see anything added to your cart or anything that says you are getting the pained minis. I found it confusing as well.
There is a note section in the ordering process that you can explain exactly what you want, such that you wanted the painted Hero expansion minis included since you bought all three packs. I did add a note and everything was shipped very quicky and I received exactly what I expected. The ordering process is pretty confusing as it is but they seem to figure it out.

If you want all three Hero Expansions (gray minis and cards) and the pre-painted minis to go with them, just order these 3 Hero packs at the same time:
http://www.eaglegames.net/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=EGL... http://www.eaglegames.net/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=EGL... http://www.eaglegames.net/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=EGL...
You should get the pre-painted minis for all 3 sets of Heroes as a free bonus if you do this.

Thanks for the timely responses...I guess the link I provided above regarding the bundle pack was for something different...anyway, thanks for steering me in the right direction....

The link you provided above was for a bundle of the pre-painted minis for the Expansion Heroes only - no Hero sheets or gray minis included. Someone would only need this bundle if they had already bought the three Hero Expansions (most likely from another vendor) and decided to upgrade them to the pre-painted minis.

The bundle at http://www.eaglegames.net/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=EGL... is the one with full expansions & miniatures. The one you linked was just the figures.

That is new and a lot less confusing then it was.

I'm not sure if this has been posted anywhere, but does anyone know when and if they plan to release a pre-painted set for the Dragon expansion?
