Ramping up my reviewing.
Happily playing games for many, many years.

For this session, I wanted a more combat-orientated game, certainly compared with our last session. At this point, the group were exploring the underground channels of the Waterworks, looking for the body of the Water Master and also for the source of the contamination.
They soon discovered that they were not alone in the channels, as four sand giants who were escorting a female human captive attacked them. The players were soon cursing as they realised that these giants, like those above, possessed magical powers that allowed them to create great areas of scorching heat, causing them to have to scurry out, closer to the foes. Luckily, the water channels were wide (as they'd been constructed by giants) and they were able to scurry to one side to avoid the full effect of the blast.
Drakult was soon engaging the giants in melee, and took most of the hits, with Geran healing him from a little bit behind as required. Riordan used his psychic powers to disorientate the giants, and eventually they were separated and slain.
Their captive, Sabiha Furat, proved to be from the Gynarchy of Hardby - and she was very sure of the superiority of women over men, which led to some entertaining exchanges with the group. She was an alchemist who had been captured by the giants and forced into examining the strange fungi that infested the water channels - which she let the group know were responsible for the madness that affected those who drank the water.
She also warned them against the Chuul that roamed the water systems, and they were indeed attacked by group of the crab-like monsters as they moved deeper into the system. The Chuul were trying to "protect" their lair from intruders - possibly - or more likely just going for food. Sabiha stayed back out of the battle, as most of her alchemical gear was ruined. Some strange fungoid creatures also appeared out of the water - Sabiha identified the as the ambulatory form of the infecting fungus. This battle was less difficult than against the giants.
In the great lower Cistern below, Chuul possessed or controlled by the fungi protected the chamber. Attacked by both the chuul and the creeping fungus (which inflicted madness on those it touched), the group were aided mightily by their cleric, who was able to cure Drakult from the madness before he could hurt any others in the group. The chuul themselves weren't too difficult to destroy, but Drakult needed his full strength to destroy the fungus, which resisted lesser attacks.
With that threat ended, the group explored the chamber, finding both the body of the Water Master and the Key-part he carried. Max and Sabiha identified the malfunctioning water-filters that allowed the poisons of the fungus to enter the city, and the group was able to repair them. However, a greater concentration of fungus was apparently in the upper cistern, and removing it would prove very beneficial for the city.
The group then began to climb up the channels once more, intending to return to the Water Master.
