*sigh* really not wanting to go this path, BUT, if someone replies to a post with something like "I will pray for you and your family", does that also automatically RSP the whole thread? So far, no, but I really don't see the difference here.

Exactly. How much more blatant can you be?!? I don't know, you licorice loving handball fans are all the same - always picking holes in my arguments...

Don't grieve, you need to pray for them!
It's amazing how some people cannot see the place of humor in their religious zealotry. For crying out loud, if you are a fundamentalist Christian, then you should believe that God created humor and appreciates its place in the human existence.
I personally like to think that God has a sense of humor. I picture Jesus as the guy that kids would naturally gravitate toward because he had a fun side. I can picture a group of kids knocking on the door and asking Mary, "Can Jesus come out and play?" because he was approachable and fun to be around. We only get to see the "stoic Jesus" that opposed the Phaisees and Saducees, and I think that is a misrepresentation. Laughter is not a sin.

We could tell Mitt and he'll shut down his campaign and make all his campaign workers go look for him.

Jesus is, undeniably, a religious figure, of whatever status - divine, historical, fictional, it doesn't matter for the purposes of this discussion - and therefore the field is religion, in the same way that a joke about granite would be a geological thread starter. A thread which starts off with a joke about Jesus is, by definition, a thread about religion. Which should be in RSP, by BGG's forum rules. I responded to an already religious thread with my question. It's not a question of causing offence (I wasn't offended - there is a longer version of the same joke involving a drunk and a river that I tell occasionally) but of appropriateness within BGG's forums.
As has already been said, it's not a joke about Jesus it's a joke about language.

See your fundamental problem is thinking RSP is for offensive RSP topics. It isn't. Go look at the forum description on the forum page.
Religion, Sex and Politics.... discuss these topics here and ONLY HERE.
Not discuss them when they are likely to be offensive. Discuss them here.
I am not offended by sex either. But BGG has decided to segregate ALL discussions of religion, sex and politics to this one place so that people aren't left guessing (often incorrectly) about what will or won't upset others.

I hope I can help clarify it.
If somebody says I have a "hot girlfriend" it also doesn't get RSP'd. Even though that is salacious in nature. Even if pics with cleavage are attached, still not automatically RSP.
A small ancillary personal note doesn't make something automatically belong here.
However something which is primarily (and starts out that way) about religion, sex or politics does.
Anything that spirals into a detailed debate about RSP topics also ends up moved here.
To take this a step further... the game Here I Stand has an inherent religious component. Threads discussing this in the game context don't get automatically moved here. Threads that derail to talk about religion in general or religion today would end up here.
If an "I'll pray for you" comment lead to a debate, it might very well end up here.
Just like some of the Magic Girl or other Hot Women debates did.
As a stand alone comment though it doesn't.

Not in USA English common usage. It just means there is a misunderstanding in a foundational concept of a topic.
If it was offensive to you I apologize.

As Wray's last thread taught us, you would also need to provide an explanation of what the flaw was and why it is an issue. If you don't it's just bad argumentation, and that's offensive to everyone. Maybe.

Seriously I have heard and used that terminology for decades, especially when I was tutoring and/or TA'ing at university. "After reviewing your test I can see your fundamental problem with X concept is blah blah blah."
Nobody ever thought I was being belittling or insulting.
I have even had people use it when they realize I am playing a game incorrectly. Oh you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the rules... let me show you what you missed. ...
I have never been insulted when somebody said it to me. EVEN WHEN it wasn't something as clear cut as pointing out something I had obviously missed in terms of "rules" or "directions".
Would it make you happier if I go edit it to say "fundamental misunderstanding of the forum purpose"?

I don't see any posts getting put in RSP because a response speaks of religion. I see posts getting put in RSP because the OP contains religion, sex, or politics. That would be the key difference.
