What happens to the funeral cart if the army transporting it is defeated by an independent army?

This happened to me due to an extremely lucky roll by the independents, but I couldn't find anything about it in the 2nd or 3rd edition rule books. Needless to say this was very bad for morale among my troops...

I would say that cart is dropped where you lost the battle.

That is how we played it. We thought that would be the most interesting way to handle it, but perhaps not as realistic as if it was just destroyed. Strange that there is nothing in the rules though...

From an historic point of view, that cart would never be found again. It took a year or so just to build it. The cart itself was supposed to be made of gold and silver and encrusted with piles of jewels.

If an army ever lost control of it, I'm pretty sure it would never be seen again.

I think it makes the most sense for it to be destroyed just as if it ended T3 not being buried yet.
