The rules state:
Quote: As soon as the last wall, the last tower, the last palace or the last house is placed on the game board, the game ends. If the placement of the last wall completes a city, the players score as normal. If no city is completed with the placement of the last piece of a kind (ending the game), each player may choose an already completed city, play 1 or 2 cards, and score. Cards played for scoring need not refer to the completed city chosen.
The issue I had with a recent game was where I played a wall (not the last one), and it completed a city. As a result, the last palace was placed on the board.
At this stage, there was disagreement as to how to do the final scoring.
My position was that the 'If the placement of the last wall completes a city' condition was not met (i.e. the last wall was not placed), and thus the final scoring should not be based on the just completed city, but should instead be based on the city of each player's choosing. The counterargument was that this was contrary to how the rest of the game played (i.e. in the rest of the game you never complete one city then score another), and that 'last wall' could mean 'the last wall that was placed on the board' (even if there were still more in the supply).
The alternative position was that the final scoring should be based on the completed city, like in the rest of the game. The counterargument was that the rules are explicit about this scenario being specific to the placement of the last wall - the rules say 'If the placement of the last wall completes a city, the players score as normal', not 'If a city is completed on the last turn, the players score as normal.'
So, that leaves me with three possibilities:
a) I am right. Each player scores a completed city of their choice. b) My fellow players are right. Each player scores the completed city, if a city was completed on the final turn. This was the solution we chose in our most recent playing. c) No scoring should occur at all.
Thoughts?

I would agree with your fellow players as it is indeed more consistent with the rest of the game, i. e. whenever a city is completed you can only score points for that particular city.
However the wording of the rules is not quite clear here.

I would go with option B as well. I think the "last wall completes a city" last wall is referring to the last wall placed on the board rather than the last wall from the supply.
