A hero has an equipped Pack of holding, full of items. Can he give it to another hero, who equips it without losing the content ?
From what I can see the only way for the content to be ejected would be if the pack ends up in the backpack.

In my opinion, this isn't how the game mechanic works.
The Pack of Holding is an Item, and when equipped in an Other slot, it gives the following abilities
"You may put as many items in your pack as you wish. In addition, you do not lose half of your coins when you die."
So that hero can reverse more than three items and consider them in his/her pack. The items are not in the Pack of Holding. The Pack of Holding is traded as an Item, but no other Items are traded 'inside' the Pack of Holding. The Pack of Holding simply expands the capacity of 'the pack', it is not in itself 'a pack'.
Logically this sounds unfeasable, but seems to me to be the way the game mechanics work.

Very interesting and logical way to put it.

The Pack of Holding gives you umpteen slots. How one fills them is unchanged.
One confirmation is that when you lose the Pack to a Crushing Blow, you decide at this moment which items you keep, up to the new limit. This means that the items weren't in the Pack.
Same mechanics about the various robes.
