I could care less if BGG hosts English, Portuguese or an obscure Nylotic Click-Tounge (I speak neither of the latter, and barely the former) but for the love of goodness, now that all the blogs are in a language I don't understand as of 02/02/2012 10:22 (which is 02/02/2012 08:22 Approximate European time) can we add a feature to turn off "languages I just don't get", or similar.
Approximately 20% of the main page is in Klingon right now, and I'm feeling very left out.

I understand how this is perceived as anglocentrism, I get that. I'm just looking for a switch to turn off languages I don't understand from clouding up the main page. If you are happy with a percentage of the screen being completely useless to you that's fine. I would just like an alternative to switch it off, similar to how people scream about the ads taking up space. I guess they are all communists or something.

This request has nothing to do with anglocentrism and is a legitimate and reasonable usability request on a site that features content in multiple languages. Haven't you ever visited a website where you can click a flag of your language to have it displayed in your language? How is that anglocentrism?

I use google chrome, it has an option to translate sites "on the fly".

So by the logic of the previous poster, google chrome is therefore anglocentric. (which was the point of my post, not suggesting that people use google chrome to address user interface deficiencies of BGG)

ASL ... yes, this is my Desert Island Game. If I have to give up all my 3000+ games and only allowed to keep one, this would be it. This bloody game stood the test of time. Around for more than 25 years - simply the best.

Basically a language filter is a thing which should be considered - I can't speak a single word Spanish, Portugese, Hungerian, Russian or Italian (heck, I even struggle with English!). Although there is not much content in other languages than English here at the moment, this may change.
Every user will only be interested in files and posts written in a language he undestands - all other stuff is totally useless to him.
As long as everything here is 99% English, no problem at all (apart from the 20% Klingon on the front page ). I also read and post some (or most) of the German stuff here on the Geek. But the more the Geek grows, the more languages will surface and contribute. And then I would like to have a language filter - like Adam.

No, it's not Anglocentric, it translates sites into german (in my case). BUT the fact you were assuming it was translating into english, I dare to call you Anglocentric.

Doesn't it make you proud to see how many people from different cultures use BGG? It's a testament to the global reach this site has.

Still missing my point (or perhaps you are driving it). The fact that someone points out a legitimate problem with being presented with foreign (to them) language content, then gets immediately slapped with the Anglocentric label, is as bad as saying that Chrome translating into any language should be called Anglocentric. The fact that Chrome addresses foreign languages has nothing to do with "English" per se so why should it be called Anglocentric.
I think I give up trying to get my point across (And you shouldn't have assumed that I assumed Chrome was translating in to English for you, because I didn't )
