Would have been better if it used real Cockney rhyming slang instead of just throwing in any old rhyming words (and not omitting the rhyme).

I'm no expert, but I have never heard of "rattle and tank" for bank - what does "rattle and tank" even mean in English? I think "J. Arthur" is more traditional. And "me old dutch plate" is just wrong - "me old Dutch" is the missus, it's "me old china" for mate.

Agreed. Playing with your Hampton. Hence the use of "J Arthurs" to mean bankers. arrrh

James is right though, it is "me old china (plate)" and keeping the rhyme in just defeats the object.

Looks like a pile of corporate Richards to me.

It's more amusing when you know that J Arthur started making films to promote his religious beliefs. His early films were dull diatribes which nobody watched. So he realised that he had to make entertaining films first, then slip the message in underneath. Hence his studio's concentration on populist slosh.

And if anyone doesn't know what "Richards" means ...

Spoiler (mouseover to reveal):
... one of the points of rhyming slang is that if you aren't in the know then you don't understand what's being said.
