Shards of the Throne includes a variety of Action cards that look like this:

with a Trade Good symbol and the note that if you aren't playing with the optional rule it references that you can spend it like a trade good.

Since a lot of these cards are weak or extremely narrow even if you are playing with the special rules they reference, I've gone one further in my group. We instead rule that action cards with this symbol, whether using the rules they mention or not, may be discarded for a Trade Good as an action.

This is a nice buff and gives players the option to "skip" a turn, which as the Yssaril know is one of the most powerful things you can do in TI3.

I've been playing them this way basically since Shards came out, and it has yet to cause any problems.

Woah! that's a huge buff. Anything that give a stall is dangerous, not sure I would favor that. Someone could hoard this things till a late round and it would be like the only non-nerfed winnu again.

I would rather just make it an optional TG regardless of the rules in use.

We like to play that you just discard them if not using the rule since 1 TG, especially late in the game, is weak.

These cards make up 34 of the 177 Action Cards in the stack. On average then someone with a hand of 7 might have 2 or 3. Strong, but I wouldn't call it game breaking. Someone with a full grip of action cards is likely to be trouble anyway

But to each their own, as with all TI3 options and variants they aren't for everyone.

I like your variant idea. I do not put all 34 in my Action card deck as some seemed more useless then others but I do have other variant AC in my deck so it is around 210 right now with both expansions mixed in and some variant ones as well.

Most of my players will be glad to finally be able to get some use out of these cards as some are more situational then a late game Rare Mineral.

Many of the normal action cards can be used as an action already, and with significantly more effect than 1 TG, so I don't see how this would make these cards any more overpowered than them.

Most of those either make you an enemy or appear advantaged. I got 2 PDS on Mecatol. I destroyed your Space Dock.
