This is one area in the rulebook that could have used examples, because there are so many variations, bases can have a number or range (2-3) and so can styles. This is how I think they all work but I need confirmation.

Style_Base_Total
_+1_ _1____2
+0-1__1____1-2
_+1__2-3___3-4
+0-1_ 2-3___2-4

This seems to sometimes give a penalty to styles that only have a number, rather than a range, is this interpretation of the additions correct?

That's how my group has been playing them. Your assessment of ranges is correct.

That looks correct to me. Simply take the base number/s and add/subract any modifiers to get your range, whether it is a specific number or a variable range.

You are correct on all counts. Styles with just a single number are often harder to land, since they impose minimum range.

I believe there is an example in the rule book.
