Hello,

I'm been looking into buying one of these 3 dungeon crawlers and I'm having a hard time deciding which one I want. I heard that WoA can also be played as a campaign. I've also heard that your characters can only get to lvl 2.

If that's the case, I was wondering how the campaign works. If your not leveling up beyond 2, does each quest not get any harder but are just different?

No!
That must be a fan-made variant.
There is no levelling past level 2 in the official rules.

As far as scaling goes, you simply gather more and more treasure, since you can bring old stuff along and have the opportunity to buy random items between adventures.
That is all there is after reaching level 2.

The game scales by having some of the scenarios increase the number of cards you draw for the rest of the scenarios. These are placed randomly in the deck of scenarios, so you never quite know when the game increases in difficulty. So in some campaigns you will get lucky and draw the cards late, in others you might get then Fairly early.

and levels in these games don't equate to levels in D&D 4th ed.

You also get Boon cards in the campaign. These are thematic cards that give you an edge once per session that plays off of what you have accomplished in the campaign already.

In the official game there is only level 2.

That is plenty high enough. It is true that WoA has a campaign of sorts.

The system doesn't really need it though. You go into ONE small dungeon, how much "leveling up" do you really need?

The entire game system is not really designed for or really supports campaign. I suspect they just tacked it on to WoA because some folks equate the D&D setting with a campaign system. If you are looking for a rich deep campaign system, look elsewhere.

My recommendation is to just play the characters and games as they are and have some fun. They set up fast, play fast and pack up fast. The characters are fine for one off evenings and adventures. Tomorrow night you can select different abilities, but the character will be very similar. But so what?

Regarding which one to buy? Buy whichever theme appeals to you the most.

Peace
