Playing the recent Ticket To Ride Asia Team rules has got me wondering if a similar variant can be done in Carcassonne. Perhaps 2 players making up a team and using one color of meeples. How could this work? Perhaps each player draws a tile at the game beginning and has a team draw rack? Common meeple pool or separated 4 meeples to each player?

I have been enjoying the resurgence of games Team play as brought to T2R and we have been playing the team game on the USA map. I thought something could be implemented for Carcassonne. What do you think BGG?

As you can improve/enlarge/complete the roads/cities/cloisters/farms of other players and since there is really no secret information, a simple way to create team play would be to have a combined score. Each player would score their own colour separately; however, in case of a tie for influence when scoring a road, city, or farm, no team can score an item twice. Another possible adjustment to the rules is that your partner may not offer their input to placement of your tile (no table talk).

A simple idea would be to have each player score individually and use the highest-lowest score method to determine the winning team. This gives incentive to help your partner if their score is low rather than just playing your own game to get the highest combined score.

Worked example, to show what I'm referring to:

Player A1: 60 points
Player A2: 80 points
Player B1: 100 points
Player B2: 50 points

In this case team A wins with a highest lowest score of 60, even though team B's combined score is higher.
