I think this should have been created by the forum moderator but good on you for taking it on.

I would add the following game companies:
GDW: Game Designer's Workshop (out of business)
TFG: Task Force Games (out of business; see ADB)
ADB: Amarillo Design Bureau (publisher of Star Fleet Battles)
TAHGC: The Avalon Hill Game Company (a more elaborate acronym for Avalon Hill)
AH/SI: Avalon Hill/Sports Illustrated (sports games published by Avalon Hill)
VG: Victory Games - a subsidiary publisher of Avalon Hill staffed mainly by ex-SPI designers
TSR: Tactical Studies Rules - original publisher of Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) that first bailed out SPI and then sold them down the river
3W: World Wide Wargames - another OOP publisher that did the S&T magazines for awhile
DG: Decision Games - active publisher with rights to some of the old SPI titles
BL: Battleline - another OOP company. Avalon Hill reprinted a lot of their games (Air Force/Dauntless, Submarine).
PNP: Print 'n' Play - games that you print or build yourself from existing files

These are great and thanks for listing the many that those of us who have played for years take for granted. Good thread.
I also like the many actual military inspired ones that are not so "official", the favorite of most being:
FUBAR - "Fouled" Up Beyond All Recognition (fouled has other common substitution words) .
There are sites with many of these listed, and I actually have a book my dad had from Korea that is the GIs unofficial guide to military terms. Its hilarious.

Lowell, that was VERY nice of You to explain that. When I first met this term I though it's some kind of next Englishmen society like YMCA After some time and finding this in different contexts I know what "LGS" means but till today I didn't figure out what "F" stands for. Thanks for that enlightenment

Skip, thanks for Your effort but those chat slang is quite easy to find through Google or Wikipedia. Finding wargaming therms is much harder.

A few more game company acronyms:
CoA - Clash of Arms games, known for games with beautiful components using hand-drawn style graphics. The current publisher of the La Bataille series of Napoleonic tactical games, the Harpoon series of modern naval battle games, and Command at Sea series of naval miniatures rules covering the first half of 20th Century.
OSG - Operational Studies Group, known for specializing exclusively with wargames covering only the Napoleonic era.
MMP - Multiman Publishing, current publisher of all main ASL products, and all titles formerly published by The Gamers. Founded by retired professional baseball pitcher Curt Schilling.
Also, some games uses the term Zone Of Influence (ZOI) instead of Zone Of Control, although both are essentially the same thing.

OP = Operation Points - various games use these.
Not to be confused with
OPS - Operations said as "ops". A military slangy term used by many wargamers.

I think it's great idea. I tried to find out how to create one, but I cannot. I wrote to admin - mkgray - who seems to be responsible for wiki pages and we'll see what he will answer. But anyway wiki search engine still doesn't work - sadly.

DNFTT : do not feed the troll
The wargame sub forum is all about HISTORICAL wargames, so space marines, wizards and especially trolls are NOT invited.

Hmm... and I though that space marines are actually fit good (Space Infantry), because this is WARgame forum - so about conflict - not necessary about history. But what do I know? I'm just a newbie...

The battle over what defines a wargame is worth of a wargame itself. Frankly, I take the position that history is just flavour text and a good source of inspiration. Other would consider a Trivial Pursuit with WW2 questions a wargame as long as the player tokens had historically correct uniforms. Frankly, if it feels like a wargame feel free to post here. I don't think a single Memoir '44 thread has every been booted out of this forum.

This might not be the place/time to even risk opening this particular Pandora's Box.
Obscure military acronyms: My dissertation is largely about a JANFU (Joint Army-Navy Foul-Up).
One we start listing acronyms for all the games--PoG, WW, etc--we might never stop...almost every game goes just by its initials, or so it seems.

Just trying to be welcoming, but perhaps that'd've been better served by a PM.

While that is true, some games are so important that you need to know about them just to follow a thread. I mean knowing that M'44 is Memoir '44 is like is essential to understanding any thread about what is or is not a war game since it comes up as a case/example all the time. Also, you need to know how chrome and complex ASL is, or how long WiF and OCS games are. Some games are just cultural reference points that are essential for conversation.
Perhaps ATS is much better than ASL, but that is irrelevant to the fact that you need to know what ASL is, but ATS not so much.
