Nile Deluxor was new to me when I agreed to demo games for Minion Games, so they get a thanks from me for this game. I've enjoyed Bohnanza for a number of years and reading over the rules to this game I began to be reminded of "the Bean Game" as our game group calls it. Although there is a startling difference, you are not allowed to have the same crop as any other player and if you play more than they do you will force them to discard all of the crops in that field. This reminded me of Tribune where the Factions can be taken over in the same manner.

We sat down to play with 4 players, none of us had played before but after a quick explanation of the rules and an explanation of the end conditions we started out. I was joined by Chris, Rod and Joseph. We opted for the Monuments expansion wanting to get a feel for the complete game. Two crops were left out, Papyrus and Onions.

After the first several rounds of innocently placing cards and hoping for the best Chris took away one of my monuments and the rest of the game was spent with each player forcing a field to be discarded by an opponent. To say our game was vicious was a bit of an understatement. I believe the game could be played nicely by families, but our game was not a nice one. Although it was a lot of fun! Rod remarked at one point how entertaining it would be if we were playing and drinking beer. I would agree (not recommended for people who are below the drinking age in their state or country).

The Monuments were useful at times. The Wall seemed to always be useful, but the Obelisk and the Sphinx seemed to have much more limited use. The ability to trade in and push your luck with the extra harvests was something we took advantage of once the deck had been cycled the first time.

In all it was an enjoyable game, Chris, Joseph and I had 4 different crops for the final tally. We each had 1 in space 2, 2 in space 3, 2 in space 3 and 3 in space 4. According to the rules we should have given it another play. I hope we do sometime soon and I hope all the readers will give this fun little filler a chance.
