Are these really supposed to be used alot because most coins you get are from your tech sheet and getting 9 on your civ sheet seems unheard of. So basically yeah am I misunderstanding something or are investing coins supposed to be rare.

You can spend coins from your civ sheet (gift from afar type) and coins on your techs that you earn by doing something (the ones with a limit of 4 coins). You cannot spend coins printed on the board, great people, buildings, government or technology cards.

So, yeah - you're misunderstanding the fact that you can also spend coins from your techs (except ones that are printed on the tech card itself).

You can invest coins from Pottery, Code of Laws, Democracy, Printing Press, plus coins on your civilization mat (such as being the target of A Gift from Afar).

When investing coins from tech cards (like code of laws) does that allow you to collect more than 4 coins from that tech? For example collect 4, invest 1, collect 1 more.

Unclear; FFG did not answer this. The consensus, however, is that the limit is on the number of coins ON THE CARD. So yes, it would allow you to collect more then four.

I have a related question: I also can't understand WHY you would invest something like 9 coins since it is removed from the coin dial which would almost have made you win the game ( when 6 are added).

Am I misunderstanding something too?

Well, if these nine Coins give you a tech victory one or two turns earlier than you would get an Economic victory ...

Thanks for that reply ... I guess coin investment is not used for achieving an economic victory earlier but to help other victories to reach.
