I first bought LOD then bought CR and have heard that the CR heroes are weaker than LOD heroes. A lot of the CR heroes have better abilities that are not found in LOD game and I think CR is more challenging because the monsters are a bit harder.

My question is are CR heroes REALLY weaker than LOD heroes, and if so how can you balance them when you mix the two? (Especially because we want a wizard and cleric)

Thanks!

It isn't that they are weaker over all.

The LoD abilities that allow the heroes to act out of the hero phase are powerful. These allow for a lot of monsters to not have a chance to act. This fact is the "strength" of the LoD heroes. Most LoD heroes have lower +to hit then the previous games, this helps, but does not fully offset the edge of preventing monster attacks.

If you are mixing the games you do not need to worry about balance. It will play out fine. I pretty much only use these games mixed now.

One issue you may find- is the player using, say, Drizzt is running around with Gwen killing everything as it shows up and the next player the wizard explores a tile and gets hit. Drizzt will spend the game near full HP, and the wiz will be near death the whole time.
