I bought the 2nd edition card upgrade (with shiny tin) recently and, although not necessary for play of the 2nd edition, was also going to get the 2nd edition board when it became available separately - extra clarity around area adjacency would have been good and I do like green.
From earlier threads on the geek I had the impression the board was going to be sold separately from the Ares website - however, having emailed them recently to get an idea when it would be available, I received a reply that there was no intention to sell the board separately.
Not the end of the world by any means, but slightly disappointing.

Never saw any threads mentioning the board for sale. As it is, I'm holding off for the expansion to pick it up. Don't see a point otherwise since I have 1st ed expansion.

I am sure that there was some misunderstanding. There is 100% intention to make the board available for separate purchase, as soon as our e-commerce site is up.

Roberto - many thanks for clarifying. I was looking for the email I received back from Ares but must have deleted it - it looked fairly unequivocal in stating the board would not be made available, but was obviously not composed by someone whose English was as good as yours, so perhaps there was some misunderstanding of my question.
Anyway, excellent news.

Just wondering... if you're buying the card upgrade pack and the board, it seems like you could probably just buy the whole game for not much more?

Yes - I did consider that, and if the board (with postage) is really expensive I will just pass and make do with the 1st edition board. The upgrade kit & (shiny tin) was £20 and the full 2nd edition is £55 and doesn't come with the shiny tin (another £10 for it separately) so I suspect it will still be something of a saving to upgrade the board.
Of course I could sell my first edition copy - but might be a bit tricky now that the 2nd edition is out.

Except the 1E minis don't have droopy weapons . But for people not overflowing in wealth you have a fair point, I sold my 1E last year for the exact reason.
Throw them in hot water and then ice water, and your 2E minis won't have droopy weapons either (at least it fixed mine)!

Does anyone ascribe a value to the shiny tin? Mine's been pressed into service as a repository for the (now unwanted) 1st Ed cards, and will sit on a shelf in my games room taking up space until I eventually get rid of it in one of those purges that sees me throw out unwanted inlays, expansion boxes and the like. If the tin has any real worth, I'm all ears.

Well, it's a nice piece of Lord of the Rings gaming 'bling' that I can store things in - what more does it need to be?

Regardless of the water trick, new minis are a lot softer and bendier. The trick is to buy 2nd Ed, then sell your 1st Ed after swopping the minis over (and the dice if you prefer the old ones).
