Hi, I just played my first TS game and a situation came up where the dungeon monsters were so bad (all 3 gave only 1 VP) that neither me nor my opponent wanted to go battle anymore. So we kept visiting the village and resting to improve our decks and the game came to a stalemate. Eventually we agreed to battle those crappy monsters just for the sake of continuing the game. Is there any ruling I'm missing to prevent this happening?

Thanks.

It happens some time. I also pay attention to the amount of gold that a monster gives. One VP but 2 or 3 gold is okay by me. However, the best way to get better monsters is to just defeat the crappy ones.

Plus, if you had knocked off all three while he sat around, you'd have 3 XP to level up a mid-level hero to elite status, gaining another 2 VP (on average) and getting a better hero for the final battles.

Yeah, what he said ^^
And 1 VP could even make the difference between winning and losing.

My issue is that fighting a low-value monster risks handing an opportunity to your opponent, because the new monster coming out is probably better. I don't know if that was the original poster's reason for a stalemate, but for me, it's a point in favor of arranging the dungeon deck: shuffle all the 3 or 4xp monsters with the Thunderstone, then shuffle the 2xp monsters and put them on top, then finally the same with the 1xp monsters. There's still a lot of variety in what comes up, but the challenge ramps up along with your deck improvement.
