Might be a silly question but...

When you recruit sailors do you HAVE to take all the sailors of your chosen colour/s?
Example: In area A there are 2 orange, 1 blue and 2 purple sailors. I pay 3 and choose orange and blue. Can I just take 1 orange and 1 blue sailor and then proceed to buy a captain for 2 coins? or MUST I take both orange sailors and the blue one so I have to 3 for the captain?

Thanks in advance.

Your first option above is the correct option

Below is incorrect, you do not have to buy all

The rules allow for you to take less sailors so that you can by a caption for less. cool

Thanks! In the end we played it this way (the correct way) because it seemed more logical.

Shane is correct, here is the actual rule:

rules page 7 wrote:
The Player can decide how many Sailors to recruit for each color (it is therefore not compulsory to take all Sailors of the color chosen).

And, of course, you can take no sailors at all, and you get a captain for free.
