Played 2ed over the weekend (well, I did play solo mid-week as well) and I have to say I love all the changes!

The expansion, while it did balance the game, for me bogged the game down with a lot of unnecessary over-complications. (Dunlendings, ents, corsairs, engines, etc...)

Now the game also seems balanced, but now it's just as easy if not a little bit simpler than the base 1ed game. It may even play a little bit faster (except for those who experienced SP blitz military victories in an hour, that didn't happen in our group).

Great work, and the 2ed upgrade kit is pretty good, not great, value. But it brought WotR back to the forefront with my group, and that definitely makes it all worth it.

Eagerly awaiting my next play.

"TotTA" = ?
At first I thought you were referencing Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization and thought that would be a weird comparison, but, then I saw the acronym didn't fit

"Twilight of the Third Age" - the part of the "Battles of the Third Age" expansion that applies to the base game.

I think my favorite change is that Gandalf can be separated from the Fellowship in order to change to GTW as opposed to just having to die. That must have been a pain originally for the FP.

This is nothing new. In the first edition of the game the same prerequisites existed:

1. If Gandalf the Grey is eliminated he can be brought back in Fangorn or in any Elven Stronghold (in FP control).

2. If Gandalf the Grey is separated from the Fellowship he can be replaced by Gandalf the White.

Even better (narrative) than Tales of the Arabian Nights?
